Bank account in another name?
 

Is it possible to add a bank account to your Etsy account if the name on the bank account is not the same as the name of the Etsy shop owner?

Additionally, the shop owner and the bank would be two different countries. Shop would be Canadian owner and bank would be USA (different name).

Curious if this is possible or if there are any ways to get this to work.

In my experience, I have not had issues with missmatched names. Also, in my experience, no system can find out what is the bank account/credit card owners' name.

Credit card owner's name - no but bank account name can be acquired by the system if the does a deposit/withdrawal or if user uploads funds - these methods generate an e-receipt that can reveal true name on the bank account from what I have seen

Oh this is interesting. I can't remember if Etsy makes small deposits into the account in order to verify it. If they do, do they confirm that the names match on both the bank account and shop name?

It’s been my experience that the name is not checked just the routing and account number, banks can not disclose names.

I haven't seen what Etsy does to confirm the bank account - perhaps others can confirm

Simply depositing into the account wouldn't reveal the name - the name would be generated on a receipt of sending money from the account or authorized withdrawal from the account...

The basics is that when you disburse INTO your bank acc, the platform can't see the bank acc name.

According to Chat GPT... Etsy themselves cannot view your banking info. But the 3rd party payment providers they use (world pay, Adyen etc) can. But they don't actually see the info, they just submit the name and account number to the bank and the bank replies with one of: [match, close match/similar, mismatch]. They are also running the name through all other financial records and credit bureaus to make sure you are a real person and not a sanctioned individual.
And despite this, I am hearing that people have had success using Wise with other names. Has anyone tried this recently? What happened?

I did that multiple time in multiple accounts, it doesnt matter
