you could try pinger app but high chances the number been used / blacklisted for use on ebay. But may be ok for etsy as not all ebay sellers revert to etsy.

Unless you want them to call you, use a ⊗⊗⊗⊗/unavailable number. I *67 on my phone and if the number doesn't work...I use it. I could not care less as a bad phone number has never flagged me yet.

They don't call you in my pretty lengthy experience with them. Not even if you wanted them to. Trust me!

Last time I did a stealth etsy account, I don't even remember them asking for a phone number??

It's under the credit card area that they ask. They do not request it anywhere else and doesn't even show under billing anymore.

To sign up for direct checkout? Well, you will need real info and a REAL phone number for that anyway, so don't bother trying a bogus number; they look it up.
