Purchasing items online anonymously
 

As we all know, sites are often breached leaking peoples information, in this case buyers, and I was wondering what steps do you all take when simply purchasing items for yourself online?

Let's say the site wants you to sign up (become a member) before you're able to make a purchase, do you all use online gift cards with address linked to a forwarding address using a alias name? If anyone has any suggestions, please do share.

Most the time I use PayPal to pay when its an option. Always feels safer than entering card details into some random website

I try my best to avoid doing business via PP by any means necessary, do you have any alternatives?

It does narrow your options down a bit

Some websites will take prepaid gift cards. It will come down to who they use to process their payments

More and more websites are starting to accept bitcoin now though which is pretty nice

TBH 90% of my online purchases are on either eBay or Amazon these days, its rare I use any other websites.

Many websites will take prepaid gift cards as James said - also Entropay. I wonder if Amazon takes EP for buying...haven't tried in ages. I don't worry about pure anonymity on Amazon /shrug so I use a regular cc at the moment.

I haven't jumped onto the bitcoin bandwagon yet, and want to avoid using pp, so I guess Gift Cards it is!

Bitcoin! It's the obvious choice and merchants love it for it's protection.

2nd would be PayPal (stealth of course)

Why would you avoid using the biggest online payment processor in the world? Makes it very difficult to purchase things online.

When I want to buy something I usually just click "buy" and put in my credit card details, lol. I know that's not what you're asking for but I really don't understand the paranoia here. A lot of people will have a dedicated checking account which they transfer funds to when they want to buy something online. That way if their debit card is compromised, their primary accounts are safe. It's a lot cheaper than buying a new prepaid card every time you want to buy something.
