In search of a Printer That Only Requires Black Ink

As stated in title, do you have any recommendations on printers that doesn't require the need of color inks in order to print?

My current printer refuses to print unless all cartridges are filled.

You can set the color printers to print only in black and white in printer preferences.

Than I just buy the ink from Amazon u get all 5 colors for $5 and they are just fine for printing postage as opposed to the brand name inks that are $13 and up for just one depending on the printer you use

I use a HP LaserJet 1022 for the labels we don't print on the Zebra, and it's always worked great. We use legal paper and can fit 4 shipping labels on one page.

It costs us like $70 for 10 refilled toner cartridges on Ebay, which is a purchase we have to make MAYBE twice annually. Our printer can only print in black and white (color laser printers are also available though), and toner is WAYY more economical than ink.

I've tried cheap ink purchased on eBay, and the results were horrific. Colors were off, and looked dull. Maybe there's a generic brand I'm missing out on.

Oh no. I agree with you. Had horrific problems with genetic inks.

We have a rule of thumb to only use the real ink for whatever model printer.

We have less issues, for sure.

We have been getting great service from the zebras.

2027 we delve into laser

Re: In search of a Printer That Only Requires Black Ink

I use a Kyocera mono laser printer run through my network so I can print from any PC. The black toners are rated for about 15000 pages but I get way more than that as the coverage is light. Since purchasing the printer I've had to replace the toner just once in nearly 3 years. The toner cost about £75

Anyone printing on integrated labels might want to look into a printer with an optional rear output tray so the paper sheets do not need to go through the rollers. This massively (from experience) reduces the risk of the label peeling off inside and wrapping around the rollers (bye bye printer). Also this will reduce any curling of the sheets as they spend less time inside the printer getting hot.

I believe the model I use is the Kyocera FS4100

Just to let you know, laser printers print invisible dots so if any bad things were done on that printer you can get identified.

Its a government thing thats been around for years.

Regarding your original question..... best thing to do is go on pcworld or similar, and pick the cheapest printer that has cheap refillable ink and buy it.

Inkjet printer ink smudges when it gets wet so for lables in a rainy country is not the greatest solution so go for laser. Laser printers are cheap these days, especially b&w.
Also, laser printers print fast and the smell from them is good :)

A few years ago, I used to go get a cheap £50 laser color, use it till toner finished then throw the whole lot in bin and go get another for £50. But I was making £150 from the printer so did not care about bin throwing.

Let us know what you end up buying, thanks.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I've always heard only color laser printers do the steganography thing, and they use tiny yellow dots rather than "invisible" dots. How would anything invisible be of any use? Lol..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Printer_steganography

I also love the smell my laserjet makes when printing.

I buy recycled cartridges for my printer because I find it most convenient. For maximum efficiency though you can buy your own toner refill kit, and reduce your ink/toner costs to basically nothing. Super cheap/easy to refill your own cartridges and you can use the same toner cartridge forever.
