The first U.S. loss of life caused by H1N1 was a 23 month old Texas child.

Devastating news.

Agreed, Green Bean....

Texas has had its first death, a 23 month old baby.

I should have not even used the word conspiracy. Maybe non-believers would have been a better choice of word.

Yes, the press seems much. But this press is saving lives. Any parent wants information. I am glad about school closings. Being a parent of a toddler myself in Texas, the more information to keep my child safe the better...

well you know if they raise the threat level to 6 it sets martial law. people will more than likely be at home on the internet.

I just had a double large pizza with double pepperoni and double mushrooms delivered. Just in case it gets as far as martial law.

I should be able to survive for 48 hours. If I can get a case of beer, I'll be good for 72 hours.

Well, actually, I do use them. That's why I'm allowed to do the pizza and beer. I'm all good.

Yea!

Swine flu has made it to my town. I live in a small town of about 45000. It's at my daughters school. I just hope it doesn't reach my house. Scarry!!

Glad there isnt a fish flu yet, I like seafood over all else. Crab, shrimp, flounder, catfish, trout, pretty much anything from the water.

Mad cow: Beef
Avian flu: Birds
Swine: Pork

Probably gonna be cat/dog flu next

Where I am, no Swine Flue yet, thank God! But even if this string dyes soon, experts worry that it can come back in fall/winter and much more potent. Last I heard there would be a vaccine made by July, but they were not sure...

By Stephanie Nebehay

GENEVA (Reuters) - The World Health Organization declared the first flu pandemic of the 21st century on Thursday, urging countries to shore up defenses against the virus which is "not stoppable" but has proved mainly mild so far.

The United Nations agency raised its pandemic flu alert to phase 6 on a six-point scale, indicating the first influenza pandemic since 1968 is under way.

"This is a very important and challenging day for all of us. It is important because we will be raising our pandemic alert level to level 6," WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan told reporters on a teleconference.

"At this time, the global assessment is that we are seeing a moderate pandemic."
