To me, a better idea (and cheaper) would be to get a bigger HD and clone it and use the same laptop.

oompaloompa | 06-29-2017 04:51 AM | Re: New laptop- How do I transfer files/Accounts to new HDD? just create the user accounts, then log in for a few days on each ebay/paypal, using stealth rules -and cookies will be established, do not do any buying, selling, listing or withdrawing - just browse.... |

I bought some new laptops and transferred everything over with a cord (bought on newegg cheap) and transferred everything over. It was a mess, since many drivers and other software was downloaded specifically for that laptop.
The creating new user accounts and only transferring browser cookies and links was much less complicated in the end. This can be done with browser directly. |
tim348 | 06-30-2017 08:37 AM | Re: New laptop- How do I transfer files/Accounts to new HDD? what about creating a disk image? where you back up the whole HD to 1 file..
would that work or is that only good to restore the OS/files to the original PC the disk image was made from?
I want to know if i can just do this by creating a disk image from the old laptop, then restore disk image to the new laptop?
yea its 10x faster all around. wasnt just the HD i needed =) |

Re: New laptop- How do I transfer files/Accounts to new HDD? Most browsers will allow you to export your user file which will carry over your;
- History.
- Cookies.
- Logins.
- Bookmarks.
- etc..
If you give me your browser I can assist you in the process. As for the HDD you have two options. Hand pick the files you want to backup and put them onto a USB/Cloud or backup the whole system.
I dont see why you would need the whole system and not just certain files. |

tim348 | 07-04-2017 11:40 AM | Re: New laptop- How do I transfer files/Accounts to new HDD? well i was looking into transfering with a USB to USB Cable.
it seems that way you can transfer all the user accounts over directly right??
It just seems like it might be faster and easier than transfering files from 15 diff accounts. |
tim348 | 07-04-2017 10:49 PM | Re: New laptop- How do I transfer files/Accounts to new HDD? I'm using Firefox for the browser. |
tim348 | 07-05-2017 10:43 AM | Re: New laptop- How do I transfer files/Accounts to new HDD? So how to i get to download all the bookmarks, history, cookies from each firefox browser?
IS there a way to just download it all as 1 file? |
tim348 | 07-05-2017 11:30 AM | Re: New laptop- How do I transfer files/Accounts to new HDD? So is this right for firefox.. i go to file explorer and download the following files for browsing history, cookies, bookmarks, etc.. That should be all I need to transfer to new browser on New pc right?
Places.sqlite
cookies.sqlite
key3.db
logins.json |
BiN4RY | 07-05-2017 12:45 PM | Re: New laptop- How do I transfer files/Accounts to new HDD? It's honestly safer for you to just mirror your entire hard drive over.
1. Connect your new HDD to your laptop externally, using some sort of SATA to Thunderbolt or SATA to USB 3.0 adapter, whatever works well for your laptop
2. Install EaseUS Partition Master Free and use it to copy your existing hard drive content over to the new one.
3. Resize the copied parition to utilize all of the free space with the same software
And you're done! |

I vote for clone. :thumb: |

Sooo easy to clone. If you don't want something off your old hard drive just delete it on your new computer after the clone. |
tim348 | 07-06-2017 09:05 AM | Re: New laptop- How do I transfer files/Accounts to new HDD? well i used a different file transfer program which switched over my user accounts and files. worked pretty good.
My only hurdle now is the firefox browser profiles...
It definitely worked when I restored them, as it restored my bookmarks, proxy config in the browser etc..
My only hurdle now is that I get an error message when trying to connect to my Proxy through firefox..
My Chrome browser (non proxy) works just fine as does everything else.
This is the message I get.. any help!? Secure Connection Failed

Yeah. Cloning makes an exact copy of your hard drive so everything will be exactly the same. I used EaseUS Partition Master when I upgraded from a disk drive to a SSD. Took less than an hour altogether and I was back on my eBay accounts the same day.
Worth mentioning though it's possible you could have some driver issues since you're upgrading your PC. Wouldn't be hard to update your drivers after the clone though. IMO it would be worth the hassle of looking for drivers. |
tim348 | 07-06-2017 09:39 AM | Re: New laptop- How do I transfer files/Accounts to new HDD? oh wow i should have waited spent half the day yesterday transfering and trying to move over the browser profiles
Its really weird i get that error message when trying to connetc to proxy but it only allows me to access some sites.. ebay , paypal it gives me the error message.
I think I am gona just redo it with that software .. thanks for the tip dude!
Its prob still faster than trying to restore each browser profile to 15 or so accounts!! | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 08:21 AM. | |
