Web Crawl/Scavenger Hunt - Need Help

I'm participating in a University thing. The concept involves following instructions. That's a bad way for me to have to start...

Personally, I say screw that. I just want to finish before it ends at 8pm June 18 2009 in whatever time zone Yale happens to be.

If anyone can help with any of this, cheating or otherwise...

All I really need is the final answer. I don't have to have anything in between.

Based on the second question being a movie title 3 digits long, I'm assuming it is 007. That's as far as I can get. And my guess could very well be completely off base.

The 007 website is in Flash, which I refuse to unblock EVER, and a Google search of the chick gives too many results. I can pretty much grab my ankles, I guess. Unless anyone wants to play.

3 might be vesper and 4 might be cummings. Without being able to verify 1 and 2, who knows?

8 is probably earth.net but if it is, what does the plant symbolize?

============================

Start at the listed website and find the information needed to fill in the next set of blanks. Then go to the site and continue on. You may have to venture deep into the sites to find some of the information.

1. Start at National Hurricane Center. You want the last 3 digits of the most recent year that saw a “Hurricane Karen”.
2. Go to www. _ _ _ .com. In the blanks below, enter the name of the female character who betrayed the lead character in the most recent installment.
3. Go to www. _ _ _ _ _ _ .org. Two people founded this organization. You want the last name of the one who is not Heckathorn.
4. Go to www. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.com. This company is located in a certain state. What are the first 4 letters of that state?
5. Go to www. _ _ _ _ .gov. Find the abbreviation of the subway system that operates in this state’s capital.
6. Go to www. _ _ _ _ .com. One of the Line Chiefs is named Deborah. You are interested in her last name.
7. Go to www. _ _ _ _ .com. There is an image on this organization’s home page.
8. Go to www. _ _ _ _ _ .net. Here you will find a bloom. What state does this flower represent?
9. Go to www. _ _ _ _ _ _.gov. This website lists only one town in the state that begins with “Z”. You want the county where this town is located.
10. Go to www. _ _ _ _ _ _ _.com. What recreation is associated with this company?
11. Go to www. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.org. There is a certain logo in the lower left-hand corner of the page labeled "Home".
12. Go to www. _ _ _ _ _ .org. There is only one woman on the leadership team of this organization. You want her last name.
13. Go to www. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.edu. The plurality of students at this school come from one county.
14. Go to www. _ _ _ _ _ _ _.com. The founder of this company grew an object in his family's garage in the early 1930's. It was the first of it's kind produced in a lab.
That object is the answer to the webcrawl.

So Far........

Vicvelcro 06-18-2009 08:26 AM

What is the name of the copyright symbol?

BooMer 06-18-2009 08:33 AM

It's not the copyright symbol. The home page on paintball.org does not work. It keeps jumping back to the "Join the PSTA" Tab.

That's what got me boggled. I already did searches for the origins of the copyright symbols and nothing shows that matches. Closest is the "ASCII" text.

Vicvelcro 06-18-2009 08:38 AM

paintball.org redirects to that PSTA thing. It's like one of my domains, several names all point to one site. It's normal. And when you click on the home tab, it looks like you are on the Join tab, but you are on Home. The only logo is copyright...

BooMer 06-18-2009 08:40 AM

I think it's ascii.org Association of Christians in IT

There website is down right now. Looks like a dead end for now......

Look what you did to my perfect rainy morning....Got me all into your Business.

Vicvelcro 06-18-2009 08:48 AM

Well, if it's any consolation, you aren't the only one helping this morning. Or trying to. And I've been working on it since last Thursday (sortof). Today is the deadline. Game over, man.

Vicvelcro 06-18-2009 11:15 AM

So who's the one female on the leadership team for them? The site is down and Google is way too generous with data today.

Anybody know anything about ascii.org?

GreenBean 06-18-2009 09:21 PM

Tis a conspiracy. What is the answer?

?cartoon cell (Walt Disney) gone mad, I know

Vicvelcro 06-18-2009 09:34 PM

ascii.org is still down. So we don't know.

I took a guess at the final answer being 'diamond' but it doesn't work proper when you check the problem backward from there...

GreenBean 06-18-2009 09:45 PM

But what if ascii relates to copyright? There is a joan stark who is involved with ascii art. I suggested walt disney etc because of the links to Kansas. One 'makes' a cartoon cell. A diamond would never grow in a family garage: a diamond may grown under lab conditions.***... humbug.
New quiz give me more time;)

***Hang about: Dr Willard Hers(h)ey made a synthetic diamond that is stored at Mcperson Museum,Kansas. This is Christian based.

Hershey bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vicvelcro 06-18-2009 10:02 PM

That's how I came to my original guess of diamond.

The lab wasn't IN his garage. It was above his garage.

And the clue needing ascii (copyright thing) says to go to _____.org thus ascii.org the christian PC headz. Supposedly there's only one female in the top eschelon. Well, sounds about right to me. How many females does one need pushing one around? Problem is, I have not been able to find her last name. The site is down and google is too wishywashy. ascii.org isn't important enough to have a wiki entry like Duke Nukem does...

Oh my. What do we dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ??

GreenBean 06-18-2009 10:17 PM

^^^I looked at UK sites but there is no X reference to ascii.org there :pout:?

Vicvelcro 06-18-2009 10:30 PM

Yeah. I'm still coming up dry with this one.

Vicvelcro 06-19-2009 05:19 AM

I have lost my patience. I emailed the professor who is referee of this thing. I'll let you know what the reply is.

Thanks everyone for all the help so far. I'll post back when I have something solid.

BooMer 06-19-2009 08:46 AM

I think the answer to the final question is Some type of Mold or Bacteria.
Or Aetheric Energy
Tesla's "Black Box"

http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/im...la/tesla_8.jpg

Vicvelcro 06-19-2009 08:51 AM

Hey. Now I never thought of that. You may be on to something. Gotta warm up the Google Fu muscles again...

BooMer 06-19-2009 08:58 AM

Yeah I was doing some searches yesterday from years 1930 to 1939 on stuff grown/grew in a Garage. Most of the stuff was in Jay Leno's Garage.

Some sites stuck out and then some sites were just Filled with ads and Spyware trying to install on my CU. So I gave up and went to AC.

Vicvelcro 06-19-2009 09:00 AM

You got Jay Leno's phone number? Maybe we can call him.

Vicvelcro 06-22-2009 12:37 AM

#11 is not ascii.org
