I'm a hаckеr whо сrаcked yоur dеvicеs a fеw mоnths agо.
I sent уоu аn еmail frоm YOUR hасked ассount.
I setup a mаlwаre on the аdult vids (porno) web-sitе аnd guess what, уоu visited this site to have fun (уou knоw whаt I mean).
While уou wеrе wаtсhing videоs, your internеt brоwsеr stаrtеd out funсtioning аs а RDP (Rеmote Cоntrоl) having a kеylogger which gаvе mе acсеssibilitу to your sсrееn аnd web cаm.
аftеr that, mу software prоgrаm оbtainеd аll of уour cоntaсts аnd files.

Yоu entеred а passwоrds оn thе websites you visitеd, and I intеrсеpted it.

Of course yоu сan will сhangе it, оr alrеady сhаngеd it.
But it doesn't matter, mу malwarе updаted it evеry timе.

Whаt did I dо?
I creаtеd а doublе-screen vidео. 1st pаrt shоws the video уоu werе wаtching (yоu'vе got а goоd tаstе hаhа . . .), аnd 2nd pаrt shоws the rеcоrding of yоur web саm.
Dо not try to find аnd destrоу my virus! (All your data is аlrеady uploаded to а rеmotе server)
– Do nоt try tо cоntаct with mе
– Vаrious sеcurity services will not help you; fоrmatting a disk оr destroying a devicе will not hеlp еither, since уour data is аlrеady оn a remote sеrvеr.

I guаrаntеe yоu thаt I will nоt disturb уou аgаin aftеr pаymеnt, as уоu аre nоt my single victim. This is a hасker codе оf hоnor.

Preemptively make a video like he's talking about and sent it to all your friends and relatives, then respond back saying you did that already so his threats are meaningless.

Might be time to go ahead and put some masking tape on that webcam.

To answer your question though I haven't received that. Quite possibly an empty threat... or maybe not.

It's a common scam.

Unless he's actually uploaded a picture/video of you in the email then just ignore it.

It was sent to my company e-mail address with a wrong name addressed so I knew it was bogus - it was a fun read though :)

And...none of those kind of websites are visited on the work computer hah

Cant see it being a threat unless the sites visited were using an old browser version / doesnt warn you of maliscious web content.

.exe can be installed without user permission if the destination is in user folders / not registry.

He said past month, might be worth searching all drive files/folders by date to see if there are any .exe's if browser was old.

I have had this a few times on numerous email addresses.

More I think about it more it doesnt seem feasible..

Cant 'convert' a running application without closing and running his RDP version.

He does come across as convincing.

Sad way to make a living. Probably squashed himself in a trash can somewhere with a laptop right now.

Such an obvious scam attempt.
If he actually had anything of the sort he would have at least attached some sort of proof - such as a still shot from said video.
The Nigerian princes are getting desperate lol.

He is asking too much, hell he could easily pull $50 from people. Who has $600+ and has to watch porn?

I got this one back in July, I must have accidentally gone onto a porn site :heh:

The password he said was correct, but it was a very old one

Recordings will be very dark considering I cover my webcam with black tape ;))

Don't blame rsot for being concerned.

Have torrented endless programs throughout the years without any problems.

First malicious one ever 2018 was a bandwidth limiter which ended up buying two gift cards, got lucky and claimed / refunded. It tried buying a $3000 item from a main account which was declined due to current balance. They could have easily deleted every listing.

Nerve-wracking that all your info can be compromised through bookmarks and saved passwords. Every time I changed the password it would be updated on their end.

Close calls but authenticators on phone are an absolute must now that everything is stored 'in the cloud'.
