Determining the sex of a frog is rather complex.
Mostly, the female is bigger than the male. (They bear the eggs).
Both male and female have a disc called the tympanum covering their ears. For the lads, their disc is bigger than their eye. Tbe gals’ disc is equal to their eye size.
I reckon you should maybe find out which species of frog the market sells. Then go from there? Did I tell you I love frogs.

| agent006140 | 06-01-2019 08:04 AM | Re: Live Frog in my backyard thanks, yes,You told me you like frogs, they are cute.
They sell them in supermarket, many in one big tub,I doubt anyone knows how to tell the sex,but will ask.
They are farm raised, but will ask what kind are they, they are pretty big and all green. |

Look closely you can see the tiny tadpoles wiggling inside. | the receiving pond gathers all the rain water from the area but it drains or soak up all the water in a day or two.
Never see any frog but snakes and turtles and fish, but the birds are looking, there must be frogs / |

Most frogs I see around here are small ones, all green 2 inches ,toads are bigger.
We also have plenty of green geckos, one per tree, they love tall plants with broad leaves |

| GreenBean | 06-02-2019 06:57 AM | Re: Live Frog in my backyard Gecko bites have the potential to hurt and harm.
The bigger the gecko the more horrible the bite.
Should you come across a gecko in the wild, then the harm of a bite increases because of the probability there are nasty pathogens in the mouth of the biting critter.
 |

:bounce: | No kidding. There are tons of bullfrogs around here. They're almost never seen but they're so loud at night they'll keep you awake. I don't really care for them. https://i.postimg.cc/t4xGXKbY/02-b3ewye-2400.png |

These geckos are feisty, they hunt at night and come back to sleep during the day.
They love fig trees, broad leaves are good for hiding. |

We just had the same thing happen to us a few weeks ago. I don't know what kind of bird it was, but a small bird made a nest between the two panes of glass in one of our windows that has an air conditioner in it. I was watching the bird make it and I thought she had a really good idea since the spot she chose would shelter her from anything dangerous outside. She was pushing little twigs and pieces of grass through a small crack in the window as she was building the nest, and I'd have to sweep up her mess daily.
She seems to have abandoned the nest as soon as she got it done though. We have a large black lab, and I think our dog running out the back door all the time scared the bird off since she built her nest right by our back door.
I'm just going to wait a few weeks to see if she decides to use the nest. If she doesn't use it, I'll remove the nest from our window and throw it in the woods. I don't think the game warden is going to be alerted about a nest disturbance and come arrest me, or anything like that. |
| agent006140 | 06-04-2019 03:36 PM | Re: Live Frog in my backyard barn swallows are small and swift, they like to build nests near human and besides mud and grass and twigs, they also use feather .
I learn that birds can keep laying eggs and then come back to sit on them when they are done laying eggs but where do they go in the mean time?
yes,dog would not be a good sight, they can also leave if they sense danger for themselves, they will give up the eggs or babies,or after sitting on them, they realise those eggs are no good and will never hatch,or may be one or both died/
But they built the nest above my front door,no animal can get up there, the only ones would be a bird of prey or a cuckoo or a human? |
