A combination of a free virus scanner (avast , avg) that is automatically updated along with malwarebytes and spybot has fixed just about any of my customers problems in the past. Very rarely have I needed to format a comp to get rid of a virus/malware

Unfortunately, it is now common for most free program, including ADOBE to try to install something else along with their program. The something else, of course, is always a free trial which will make you pay in 30 days to keep it. Or a "toolbar" to "help" you surf the web. By "help" they mean hijacking your browser when you are trying to buy something.

Avoid installing any of this crap. Sometimes, you have to click on the CUSTOMIZE button and bypass the one-click install. But it is worth it.

I also recommend BitDefender. It stops any malicious programs in their tracks. I use BitDefender and Spybot Search and Destroy and I never have issues.

Thanks jeffweico - I also saw this program Revo Uninstaller Pro which allows you to remove any toolbars that have been on the system

ADOBE trapped me twice.

That was it.

Now I have MAC & Snow Leopard with greatly reduced hassles.

True - many have shown that Macs are less susceptible to these nonsense. Time to read up on Snow Leopard
