Question on Doing Business as process
 

can someone please inform on how long does the process of getting a Doing Business as Name in New york or the average time for any state in the united states? I hope it does not take longer then a month :)

Depending on the jurisdiction, most DBA filings take 1-4 weeks with some exceptions.

In my state, you are required to walk into the Secretary of States office & fill out a simple form. Alot of times they do not ask for ID. They check to see if the name is available, and that is it. They give you your DBA paperwork right then and there. I would suggest checking the New York Secretary of States office online to find the location in the area you are seeking to apply. Chat up the government employee & they may be so grateful that ID is not asked for.

We dont have anything like that in the UK if its just an informal "self employed" thing. You just inform the tax people you are self employed and "trading as XXX". Otherwise you buy a ready made "off the shelf" company for about £40 ($70)

I assume that how you folks get your "official resale number"??
