what is your opinion on CA ruling that drivers are not freelancers but employees?
I have watched a few videos on Youtube posted by drivers and how much they make ,they are all a little above or under minimum wage,working 6 days a week and no overtime pay.
As for tipping with food delivery,customers feel they are paying delivery charge so no tip for the driver !

You are referring to Assembly Bill 5 (AB-5) in California. It was recently signed into law by the governor.

This bill has the implications of reclassifying some independent contractors (such as myself) as employees.

I personally think it's a disaster and has far more reaching implications beyond gig workers such as Uber & Lyft. I think it's more of a power grab by California to collect additional taxes. It has less to do with protecting the worker, and it interferes with private business relationships.

It's typical California. I should know because I lived in the Bay Area for more than four decades, and have seen this type of thing play out many times.

So, how do the rest of you feel about AB5 ?

I heard it will be the same in other states.
I grew up in a different society,back then most do not own car and most do not know how to drive,besides yellow taxi,there is also white taxi,which is private driver who will take you places for a fixed fee.
We know one in our neighorhood,back then there is no cell phone or smart phone,but his family will take the phone calls and he will constantly call home to check messages.
He is a friendly guy,we used his service for doctor appointment or when my father felt good and want to splurge taking us to dinner or beach.
I think thats his full time job,driving folks around town!
When I was in NYC in the 1980s,someone told me 2 old ladies will pay a cabbie 60 dollars to take them to Macy,then lunch ,then movie and then home,cabbie does not mind as in NYC,the best time to make good money is after work hours when out of time businessmen with expense account and their local counterpart paint the town,drinks,dinner,show and ??/

Ppl I know who do Uber or Lyft, can "flip" their account on for various periods of time and only work those hours

Can a taxi driver sign up to work for Uber and Lyft and AMZN ?
and what about those who work for airport shuttle ,they own their own van?
