| Burning | 09-09-2009 09:35 PM | NEW! Alipay! Well, I just want to tell you guys that alibaba has just launched something new. It is a new site, it is called alipay. I believe it is a payment processor like paypal, correct me if i am wrong. I am still researching on it. Lol. |
Surley it won't be an option for Ebay payments..lol. But yes, I read about this some time ago and it is supposed to be liike PayPal. We'll see |
| philly387 | 09-09-2009 09:47 PM | Any new payment processor that accepts payments without any problems is always a bonus! |
| Burning | 09-10-2009 02:58 PM | Well, now Chinese suppliers don't have an excuse of not accepting credit card. Alipay is in Chinese and in English. Also the good thing is that ebay does not own alipay, plus alipay is a chinese company and is based there. I'd be surprised if they speak english on the phone. |
| Vicvelcro | 09-10-2009 03:04 PM | Call me stoopid, but I don't see anything of substance with Alipay.
I pay my suppliers via credit card already anyhow, and I do it directly without the middleman. Does Alipay allow somebody like me to ACCEPT payments from buyers? That might be useful if it were at least 47 times better than GC. |
| Burning | 09-10-2009 04:31 PM | Well, paypal is common in china. I don't see a need for alipay. It will only be useful if it were like GC and I could receive money. |

This is just another step closer to getting jo blow in touch with the factory. Its a pretty big deal when combined with the new aliexpress they got going on.
Its going to create a second boom or flood of product into the ebay market place. Alibaba is making it easier and easier for average people to buy direct. It will have an impact around a lot of markets when it gains more steam.
Its not if but when ebay gets true competition. The chinese are going to run them over like a freight train and do it the right way. Taobao/alibaba are not on good terms with ebay either especially when it came to ebay trying to enter the Chinese market. |
| Burning | 09-11-2009 04:53 PM | That is what everyone is afraid of, the chinese, no offense, lol. They come on ebay put a lower price, meaning lesser profit. |
| oompaloompa | 09-16-2009 07:53 AM | are all alibaba suppliers going to offer alipay? the ones Ive asked arent forthcoming.... |
| Burning | 09-16-2009 07:51 PM | Some of them do, some of them don't. It depends on the supplier. Some of my suppliers do not know of alipay. |
| JamesYaBaoy | 09-21-2009 12:43 AM | Most, companies dont bother with PayPal.I turned a few suppliers on to MassPay. The others didnt understand that it was basically the same as a western union payment,, and saves me the good ole $14. |
| Burning | 09-28-2009 09:41 PM | Yea, most companies don't understand the damn differences even if you explain them about paypal and western union. I never tried masspay but I am going to ask my supplier. |
| Burning | 09-28-2009 09:48 PM | Ummm...what is the point of masspayment. They don't accept credit card. You have to use your paypal balance. There is no use if they don't accept credit card. It's as safe as using wester union but atleast you can pay by creditcard. |
| Vicvelcro | 10-07-2009 06:42 AM | If your PP balance is insufficient and you have it automatically funded by your credit card, you can still do a chargeback against your card. It has pros and cons. It's the last layer of a multifaceted defense. Avoid taking risks when buying from suppliers and hope you don't HAVE to do a chargeback.
I don't use escrow on a regular basis, but have used it a couple of times with some particularly suspicious sellers who had something I *really* wanted and was willing to take a chance. Usually, I opt to use my card first, so the seller can get their operating capital and I can get my goods quicker while still keeping my heinee reasonably protected.
I try to see it from the other point of view. If I was a supplier and a potential client always wanted the goods while expecting me to wait for payment, I'd say screw them. As an ebay seller, do you *like* to ship while PP holds your stash until delivery is confirmed or FB +'d? I doubt it. I know it never appeals to me. Somebody wants something, I want my loot. I figure when I want something, my provider wants their loot. No mystery there, right? |
| Burning | 10-08-2009 09:11 PM | Yes, you are completely right. But some people want more than there loot. That's when it get's nasty.
Thanks for explaining it to me vic. I never knew that I can do a partial payment by credit card. |
| duanbeishan | 11-01-2009 07:30 PM | trust me don't think the alipay is the same thing like paypal. alipay is garbage |

| duanbeishan | 11-02-2009 01:47 AM | Well,Let me tell you something about alipay
First of all, the alipay don't have more experience to protect the customers funds when you pay via alipay the money can be withdrawed directly from the other party. unless you buy from taobao some powerseller! that transcations maybe safe a little bit.
Secondly,If you find the other party is a scam, the alipay customer service may need to you supply more and more evidence and document to help them make sure you have been cheated. their working efficiency is too bad! it takes a long time to resolve the issue! |
