I was in HK one year when banks posted a sign that it charges a fee for counting your cash, customers will come with 5-6 figures worth of cash, | Oh ye, in Shenzhen cash does not exist. Everything is paid for using QR codes (barcode you scan with your phone that debits an account), so the gov can see everything you buy. That's infinitely beneficial to know exactly what people are buying, and when.
It's one step farther than what Mark Zuckerburg is doing / is capable of. He speaks fluent Chinese. He may as well be a member of CCP based on his invasive business ethics. He pushes the limits, US calls him out, he says "I'm sorry I didn't know any better!", waits a few months, then pushes the limits again.
Facebook is spying on everything. Firefox just recently released an addon that will block all facebook trackers on any website you visit.
I recently figured out how Pirateship is free (free to use shipping label website) - they're partnered with facebook to collect data on all the stuff people sell. That data is worth much more than offering a free to use website.
