Notice of penalty crazy help
 

Anyone ever receive notice of penalty from US CUSTOMS


They sent me a bill for $485k for importing DVDS to my house that I have no knowledge of or paid for.

I hired a lawyer and he said customs will sue me for the money even though it wasn’t me.

Has anyone dealt with this before? My lawyer says he cost $350 per hour and in court the costs could sky rocket if they play games.

If anyone dealt with this issue before please share what happened

Can you blur the names / ref no. out on the letter so we can have a look ?

I'd really like to see it.

The one time I had something taken by customs (20 chargers) they sent me an itemized invoice with what they thought the items were worth, but there wasn't anything in the notice about me sending them money.

This honestly sounds more like a tailored scam attempt, lol. Are they wanting you to pay with Walmart money cards?

Letter was registered mail & does anyone know a good lawyer for this?

This is crazy, there were 10 DVDS in each box and it was a few thousand boxes sent to the address I live

This is not a scam the lawyer said it’s legit and it’s a demand for penalty

Any insight would be appreciated

When I say boxes I mean the little DVD packs not shipping boxes, according to what customs wrote

10 DVDS in each pack & a few thousand packs

Was it your shipment? Did they deliver?
If you say its not they must have a proof that its yours they are not stupid to send letter and demand notice without proper evidence

Guess you better get to selling these "mysterious" 10s of 1000s of DVDs so you can pay your laywer!

They can’t have proof because It’s not mine

My lawyer said they pulled the house deed found my name and sent me a bill

Apparently they don’t have to prove anything because it’s civil court

Why would they need to pull a house deed when the package is addressed to you? lol

Not addressed to me it’s addressed to a Chinese company & using my address

I did not receive it. I posted this to see if anyone ever dealt with this & which attorney they hired if no one here can help just close the thread

I guess its a good thing you was already a member here, whom does not have any knowledge about these DVDs that was most likely not going to sell them on ebay or amazon. Odd that someone would purchase these from China and ship them to someone other than themselves.

Even more odd is that fact that they still delivered these DVDs instead of confiscating like normal.

I am sure there are lots of good lawyers in Cinci who deal with trademark and/or intellectual property.

Sorry you must of posted this while I was replying. If it was not addressed to you and it wasnt in your name, then why are they bothering you. Are you in anyway affiliated with the Chinese company it was addressed?

I mean, if the above is true, why would you even need an attorney. It's like they drew your name out of a hat as a target. Is the address it was sent to even similar to your address? Same zip code, city. Street name similar? You are suppose to be innocent until proven guilty, not vice versa.
