How much does US customs charge for import duties?
 

I am getting a lot of conflicting info by searching on Google.

For a shipment worth 10,000 Euros (8000€ goods + 2000€ shipping), I pay German customs around 20% on the 10,000 Euros.



How does it work out in the US? Do you have to pay duties on the value of the goods only or on shipping as well?

It depends on what you are importing,you can go to its website

2% but only if the declared value is over $800. We don't pay taxes on the shipping cost.

It depends on the category and the country of origin.
country of origin you cant do much ,but category is important,if jade is under jewelry not figurine/statue,you will be paying much higher duty

That doesn't sound accurate to me. Anything commercial would come in declared as "commercial goods" and the origin country wouldn't make any difference. I welcome you to prove me wrong. I don't have much experience outside of importing from China.

Regardless, for the intents and purposes of this forum, my answer is valid. :thumb:

Holy moly!! We pay 20% and shipping costs are also included in that calculation :mad:

It's almost like the German economy has been crippled on purpose.
