How long it took you to get from where you are now?

wanna hear some real story from all of you... I just started selling on ebay, so there's nothing much I can share. Basically I'm still in Uni and doesn't have a career. I believe many of you are selling on eBay full time... just wondering how long it took you guys to be at where you are now? I heard of many stories of people who quit their job (accountant, banker etc) so that they can concentrate on eBay. I was thinking that it is pretty crazy for them to do that, but somehow I do believe that eBay can generate a massive income, and may be even more than what the professionals receives as their salaries. Alright guys, come and share your views

its possible to make alot of income but its almost impossible to keep doing it for a certain time. it all depends on what you sell...ebay has become very strict...7 years ago it was easier than it is now...you just got to know how to beat there system nowadays... once your in the the ballgame (lifting limits) you should make good amount of money untill they actually limit you again and close your account

The income limits with ebay are endless... You have to know what you are doing .. I quit my "real" job two years ago.. I am in college now pursuing another degree only because I can afford to do it , not because I need a job later... Keep on top of your accounts and be able to pick up a sleeper account when one goes down and you wont ahve any breaks in income.. or just run several at a time

My family thought I was nuts when I quit my job , and yes it was a risk... But I think I have prooved them wrong :)

I believe having your own business is the number one way to make money, but I think to do that successfully you must work in the real world first. I seriously think you should do ebay but also get a good career, you can do both, you will never get business or people in business experience, without it. You can also follow your career niche in the products you source. Ebay is competitive, its not easy to make big money, a job combined with it to start with, will build finances even more, then you can have your own business either fully in ebay or much better actually alongside your other business that you own..

just my opinion

I would definately never quit my career to sell on eBay. I have worked to hard to just quit. Also, eBay is way to risky and they change things too often. I still cant figure out why they make it so hard to sell. I mean, one day your a powerseller, and the next day your totally wiped out.

On the other hand, I can definitely say I have made some good money selling on ebay. Thanks to a little trial and error and this forum especially. I have plenty of strories I could tell, but many of them are the same stories you read from other members everyday. I have been through it all, limitations, loosing hundreds of dollars, supplier problems, shipping and customs problems, you name it. But like with anything, you live and learn and know what to do different the next time.

When times were good and it wasn't so saturated with sellers, there was a lot of easy money to be made. I remember I was selling on ebay before alot of my friends even knew what eBay was! I think that too many people are getting hip to selling on ebay and ebay is just trying to weed the little guys out. All in all, eBay is a nice hobby for me, and it keeps me busy and making money is always plus. Plus the items I sell I enjoy and I use the products myself.

Yeah I totally agree with what you guys have shared. Having a career is definitely a must and not a choice. My personal opinion would be selling on eBay and having a full-time career which I see it as maximizing income intake.
Well, I do believe that people are generating wealth by selling on eBay full time. But the risk involving account being close down isn't very attractive at all. (That's when stealth account comes into the game.)

I still think having your own website is the way to go. I am trying to get mine up and running.
