Bought an iPad new, paid sales tax, now selling it used on eBay and sales tax AGAIN?
 

Not as a business, but as an individual with an eBay stealth account if I buy an iPad new at Best Buy, pay my sales tax and then years later sell it used on eBay, I still seem to get dinged with sales tax a 2nd time. Is there a way around this when selling on eBay/Amazon? Does it matter what state you register your stealth account in as far as sales tax is concerned? The sales tax was paid with the first sale, so every time a consumer sells their depreciated belongings they have to pay 7-12% again + sellers fees + PayPal fees?!

I don't think Florida has this new internet sales tax yet.. just judging from orders in my sales history. Possibly because all of the forwarding companies there who would lose business if all their international customers had to start paying sales tax. :noidea:

So if the seller is in Florida and they sell to someone in California on eBay does eBay still collect sales tax?

I dont know where you get the idea seller pays sales tax,when you go to BBY to buy,does BBY pay the sales tax?
Ebay will collect sales tax from your buyer and remit to his state.

yes,your Ca BUYER pays CA sales tax,Ebay does the remitting,you dont have to do anything

That said.. you DO have to pay income taxes on your profits. You would deduct the iPad costs however (as inventory) so that would lower your actual tax responsibility.

I believe if you don't want to pay sales tax you have to register for sales tax exemption with your state
