North American buyers are already stopping buying things they don't really need and focusing on necessary things.

in the past that guy would be sitting in a backroom office watching security cameras...times have gotten much more lax on the dealing with shoplifters in the present moment...merchants suffer

They still have them sitting in the backroom checking, then for self checkout, they have software which watch what you are doing.
They can also lock up the wheels of your shopping cart as you leave the store.

Wheels of the shopping cart locking are a general proximity/security barrier to prevent carts being stolen off the premises - I haven't seen an individual controlling the locking of the cart...

Re: slow sales?

I have situation of my cart wheels locked up while leaving the store and the clerk will come and use his phone to unlock it.
But I have never seen any one being stopped and have their cart examined?

Ah right on about the wheels locking - accidentally leaving store with the cart. Only place I can tell where carts are stopped...manually though...is costco to be examined when leaving...

Re: slow sales?

Costco likes to see the receipt and then looks into your cart.
Costco just ups its membership fee.
Costco has a problem, non member likes to borrow their friend;s membership card and get inside Costco to have a cheap lunch and buy ,now Costco is issuing card with your photo.
I never care much for Costco,,limited variety,eg cocoa cola, campbell soup and larger portion or you have to buy say 2 folger coffee or 4 campbell soup .
I dont find their prices so much cheaper, may be if you have a large family,it works for you.
My local supermarket sends me coupons each month, like buy $50,get $5 off, then it knows what you buy frequently and give you 40 cents off broccoli,60 cent off eggs,$1.50 off 1/2 lb deli meat,$1 off ice cream,$1 off seafood etc, sometimes free dozen eggs, one pint Haaze D icecream, free donut.$1.50 off rotisserie chicken etc..
I know why they give us $1.50 off 1/2 lb of deli meat ,as it gets expensive, few people buy and they get spoiled.
Costco does not stock all Campbell soups like cream of asparagus, cream of celery
And I earn points ,each 100 points is 10 cents off gasoline,$1000 points is worth $1

Re: slow sales?

you can get into costco for free with a $ gift card - then you can buy whatever you want - it's a known loophole

agent006140 09-08-2024 01:48 PM

Re: slow sales?

I will keep that in mind if I need something from Costco
Costco claims it makes money on membership fee only and sell their merchandise at cost,do you believe that?
if sold at cost, then it should be wholesale price and with Costco buying power,it should be much lower than what they are asking now

rsot 09-09-2024 01:07 AM

Re: slow sales?

I don't believe they sell their merchandise at cost...feels like smokes and mirrors...likely some small print somewhere about that claim
