Default network detection issues

my laptop that I use for ebay is finding other wifi networks in my area /neighborhood but can't detect my own router/network. I've a bunch of youtube tutorials. what gives? It will detect my network when I plug in a usb network adapter. I use windows 10 pro.

First, try updating the driver of the wifi:

- Search for device manager in the search bar and open it
- Expand network adapters
- Right click on the wifi adapter (it's written wifi adapter or Wireless...)
- click on update driver
- click on "Browse my computer for drivers" and then click on "let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer" and then pick one.

Or purchase a wireless USB adapter.

Hope this helps.

yes I usually use my adapter I keep it plugged in but I have all the drivers updated. I think maybe my router is on a different frequency

Have you checked that your network is indeed "broadcasting" wifi? I mean example - your phone connects to it? I have seen some ppl turn off the wifi for their network and make it wire access only by accident or so.

Do you see your home network from other devices, for example, from your smartphone?

yes. my other laptops detect the network as well. it's just this one particular laptop that won't detect my network but will detect others. it will only detect my network if I plug in the usb wifi adapter

Oddly, I had a similar issue in 2019 with a Lenovo notebook - I didn't know how to troubleshoot it - 2 other laptops would detect the wifi network but this one...I ended up just using hotspot on my phone for this laptop to connect.

released September 2011 I think it can't detect 5g networks only 2.4gz or something. that could be the issue but it connects to my mobile hotspot
