I like to hear your opinion on this matter-
A friend of mine had foot surgery and been in a cast, insists she can still drive.
So she drove herself to physical therapy and rammed the car into the wall of the building.
There are some empty chairs behind the wall,so no one is injured.
Her car is totaled , insurance co will give her $15K .
I assume insurance co will pay for the wall repair from her liability insurance coverage which should be enough?
Her insurance premium will sure go up,question-will the policy be cancelled?
I know people cant live without a car, what kind of car can she buy with $15K?

This is why people are required to have insurance to drive cars. No telling when someone is going to slam the gas pedal thinking it's the brake, or get their foot stuck behind the brake pedal, or have their brakes fail on them.
Yes the insurance company will pay for the repairs. It's unlikely they will drop her because of this unless she's a habitual vehicle wrecker.
For $15k she can buy a decade plus used car with 100k+ miles on the odometer.

Leasing a car is also an option for your friend rather than buying outright.

thanks to your replies, she lives in the city in a district with supermarket, restaurants all around, unless she intends to go out of town, otherwise she could get a small Nissan or Hyundai.
I need to go back to the repair shop which added freon to my car ,it has all disappeared,so if there is a leak, why cant they find it then? Quote:

Once, there is a little boy who refused to go to school, his parents are both educators,so there is no excuse their son does not want to go to school that day.
He ran all over the house and finally hid under the dining table.and his mother pull him out and took him to school/
Lunch time,he and his sister always walked down an alley which sloped down to a brick wall and to the left is an opening to the main street .
While they walked down the alley, there is a truck behind them and the brake was broken, the truck driver lost control of the truck and it ran towards the wall, the 2 kids got scared and ran towards the wall, they should have moved to the side and let the truck smashed against the wall, anyway the boy died on the spot while his sister was unharmed.
Does the boy know he is going to die that day?
His mother always tell the story and regret forcing him to go to school. Quote:

Repo men are all very busy these days
once I went to return some cables and I was in the waiting line,in front of me is a guy who worked for Budget Rent A Car.
Do you know not all rental cars are turned over to the auction, his job is to sell those cars.
He said he is glad he will soon be retiring, those who come to buy cars, they do not have a job, without a job,the bank would not lend him the money to buy the car, without a car, they cant find a job!
I did not ask,but I figured the cars Budget did not turn over to auction must be badly beaten, but may not be a bad deal if it is fixed up as they would have low mileage

Gotta love the anecdotes.
Either way, this person is going to have a really hard time getting a reliable replacement vehicle for $15k.

may be not buying a car,her hubby has a car and they live right by the busline/
But I understand these days Americans all need to have his/her own car, just like cowboy has his own horse, unlike in the old days, one family has just one car.
Everyone has a cellphone,a TV set,a car,and his own apt

Too long of a follow-up post to read agent - but if your friend doesn't need to drive far, maybe she can get a smaller scooter or 3-wheeler.

Robotaxi,I believe we have them in Houston altho I have yet to see one.
If you dont go out much, you save auto insurance, license plate, gas and repair and we have to take our car to be inspected each year.
My health insurance policy offers all you can eat LYFT ride to hospital and doctor appointment.

I haven't had to do a vehicle inspection ever in my life but I always see inspection stations when I go out of state. I'm just now learning that I'm in one of 13 states that don't require them.
That's a pretty cool insurance policy though, to give you free rides.

He said he looked up Carmax and come up with $3500.
My car is 2005 Honda Accord with 34K miles, new tires and freon ,i am not going to sell.
But if Carmax is right,$15K should get her a decent used car??
