any good tips
mine are at least 2000mg vit c a day, cut refined sugar and yeast, 30 min cardio exercise a day
what supplements work for you? |
Why take vitamin C supplements? C is easily obtained in the diet.
And that sums up my approach, get everything you need from your diet.
Eat plenty of fish and shellfish to get essential Omega 3 and minerals. Our evolution was based upon sourcing our food from rivers and the sea as we migrated around the globe, yet our modern diet contains very little seafood.
Fresh air, sunlight, exercise, avoid processed food, drink water all day. |
| aspkin | 03-11-2010 03:10 AM | I second what bode said.. a healthy diet is key to a healthy lifestyle.
Stay away from junk foods and sugary drinks and eat more fruits, vegetables, lean meats, etc and you'll feel and look better.
I take a mega man vitamin, and a protein shake to help bulk up. And I exercise as much as possible; usually once a day at least. |
Try to raise your heartrate to 80% of your maximum at least 4 times per week and keep up this rate for a sustained period of at least 20 minutes.
The higher blood flow helps to remove the ldl (Low density Lipoproteins) the bad ones and the hdl (high density Lipoproteins) will increase.
Eat lots of fruit and veg, avoid stimulants like coffee.
The best thing about excercise is you "blow out the cobwebs" (as I like to say) and you clear your mind allowing yourself to work not harder, but smarter.
Cod liver oil is great for joints, hair, skin and nails. I dont take any other supplements apart from protein after a hard cycle or weight training. You do not need other supplements if you are getting a good balanced diet.
Also if you take extra supplements they wont hurt you but the body flushes the out unused. For example the body can only assimilate 21 g of protein at any one time, so if you take 25 g of protein the body cant use the extra 4g so stores them as fat. |

| oompaloompa | 03-11-2010 04:52 AM | the vit c is different , it flushes out quickly but it does you good whilst its in you, you cannot get that high a dose from diet...
Im a big believer in fish oil, I take 2000mg a day and 2000mg evening primrose oil
I make a superfood juice, things like kale, blueberries, acai |
If you cannot get that high a dose from the diet then you shouldn't be consuming that much. Salmon,Tuna, Mackerel, Herring/ Rollmops have plenty of fish oil already.
Those superjuices that you make, there are two types. The juicers which extract just the juice and the others that crush the fibre. The latter will run through you leaving you with an upset digestive sytem because your body didn't have time to break down the fibre. |
| oompaloompa | 03-11-2010 06:55 AM | cancer prevention - apart from not smoking, avoiding hormones and good diet, anything else?? baby aspirin for anti-inflammatory properties....
vit d is important, if you dont get sun much....
st johns wort, mood lifter
anyone tried acupuncture?? |
Cancer is a lifestyle disease. They promised the cure in the 1960s if they got enough money! We all know how to avoid that.
Vitamin D is again found in oily fish I mentioned above. The body finds it difficult to absorb D from food, so the only real way is sunlight, unless you are of African decent living in Northern Europe then you need more sun! Vitamin D has a huge impact on cancer so fish and sunlight.
If you really want a massive boost in trace minerals and vitamins eat a portion of Calf's liver, humanely sourced from the UK of course. WHFoods: Calf's liver
A calf shouldn't have too may toxins stored in its short lived liver ;)
St John's Wort is one of the handful of "alternative" natural remedies that has a proven medical benefit for depression. But earning money, ambition, good diet and exercise prevents depression!!
I love the idea of acupuncture, kick starting your electrical system can only be good.
The whole Cholesterol thing is another one of those "diseases" invented by the drug companies. Using our family doctors and hospital consultants as sales reps.
You can't go out shopping anywhere without a Cholesterol stand telling me that I must go on Statins...err no thank you. Did you know that simply the thought of putting a needle in you can raise your cholesterol levels?! Great test. If you don't get enough your body will produce more. Have a google for cholesterol myth and make your own mind up. |
Oomp I tried acupuncture when I was suffering with a shoulder problem. I went in sceptical thinking "needles wont do anything for me"
However I was pleasantly surprised in that after 4 sessions my injury was a great deal better. Now you could argue that the natural healing process was the reason or that at the very least the acupuncture sped it up.
Now my mother swears by acupuncture, she has had it for a bad back, and my father describes it as a ("lot of old boll****")
Everyone has different experiences with it but mine are positive, I feel it helped me. |
| oompaloompa | 03-12-2010 01:32 PM | Im big on alkalinizing your system too, with foods
seen coconut oil is good, although not sure what happens if you cook with it...
yes Ive read about the cholesterol myth, I think its only one of many factors with heart conditions..... |
| jbluntz | 06-17-2010 06:58 PM | Its not really a matter of what you eat but how much you eat and how often, having too much of any kind of food in your belly all day can be bad, the feast fast method is best, humans were designed to eat before bed, like tribal people get plenty of excercise on an empty stomach in the day then eat, drink and party before bed. Also sprinting cleans out the arteries, sweats out alcohol and puts all the junk where it belongs combined with a little sugar you'll have an elevated metabolism like an athlete (rapid fat loss). |
| JohnnyBoy | 06-17-2010 08:55 PM | Dont Smoke CRACK!!! =} |
| Vicvelcro | 06-17-2010 10:10 PM | I eat whatever I have a taste for (usually junk and fast food). One good meal a day. Gallons of coffee and Mt Dew and beer. I smoke and don't sleep much.
I take my own line of supplements.
I'm fine. Maybe could be better, but just fine anyhow. |

Bad Vic. :) |
| SelfMade17 | 06-18-2010 03:11 AM | I try to drink half my weight in ounces of water each day. and also i eat fiber bars just incase i dont have enough fiber. and i like to drink some v8 splash too. lol. |
| jbluntz | 06-18-2010 03:28 AM | Here's a tip from the man himself Jack Lalane "excercise is king, nutrition is queen(secondary)" Here's one of my sample workouts: 20 min high rep calithstenics, plyos and sprints. Forgot to add my sample diet: 1 snickers bar for breakfast, mcdonalds and a six pack of beer(liquid steroids) for dinner. I prefer medeteranian, latin and asian style foods but if all you got is mcd's and gas station down the street it will still get the job done if it's temporary as long as you throw in that workout. |
| aspkin | 06-18-2010 03:30 AM | Supersets is king. :) |
| Vicvelcro | 06-18-2010 06:17 AM | Hey, you know, you could be right. But if so, two seconds after I'm gone, it won't bother me a bit. Heh.
Nah, I'm honestly in pretty good shape. Much better than average, but not perfect. When I indulge in the junk food, I don't completely pig out. The worst is the coffee and Dew. 32 oz of beer maybe once a month. Otherwise 1 beer a couple times a week. Occasional shot of scotch whisky. Maybe 2 fingers worth served neat. Quote:

| jbluntz | 06-18-2010 06:32 AM | That's it, I drink at least a six pack or a couple liters of wine or more a night ,at least, 7 nights a week and I'm built like an athlete. All those carbs from the alcohol fuel my morning workouts. And most people ask me if I just got back from vacation or something since I always a fresh healthy glow on my face. |
| Vicvelcro | 06-18-2010 07:51 AM | Sometimes 11 days and 35 nights a week, when you're feeling froggy? Quote:
