Google Checkout cracking down? Only if you're a scammer!

Well, it's been a while, and this may not even be current events, but as the wise bard once said "If I ain't seen it, it's news to me!"

Google Checkout appears to now be pulling a Paypal, asking for additional information over the holidays. The crazy thing--they're not discriminating between new accounts and seasoned. Here is a copy of the email being circulated:

"We are unable to verify the account information provided during the signup process. Although you may still accept and charge new orders at this time, you must provide some additional information before you can receive any future payouts. Please note that this account verification process is not related to the bank verification you completed during sign up.

Please photocopy/scan the following documents within five business days:

1. The front and back of the credit or debit card you used to sign up.
For security purposes, please conceal the first 12 digits of your card
number, leaving only the last 4 digits visible.
2. The front of your driver's license. Please ensure it is a clear and
legible copy.
3. Proof of address for each address entered in your Google Checkout
merchant account. Acceptable forms of proof of address include the
following:

-driver's license with matching address
-bank statement
-credit card bill
-water, phone or other utility bill
-business license

4. The original supplier invoices/receipts for the following order(s)

Order # blah blah

The invoices must contain order details and your supplier's phone number.

Write your merchant ID number at the top of these documents, and fax
within five business days to (650) 887-1640, Attn: 'Google Account
Verification.' While we recommend that you fax the documents, if you
prefer, you may also reply to this email with the appropriate attachments.
Please ensure that the copy of the driver license you send us is clear and
legible. To avoid delays, we suggest that you adjust your fax or scanner's
resolution settings. You may also print a test page first to ensure the
copy you send us is clear.

Additionally, we noticed that the bank account you provided for Google
Checkout is related to a virtual money service.

At this time, Google Checkout does not support the use of bank accounts
that are related to virtual money services.

Please update your bank account information with a non-virtual money
services bank account within 10 business days. For instructions on
updating your bank account, please visit
https://checkout.google.com/support/...y?answer=25395.

Failure to send any of the information listed in this email may result in
a delay in payouts. We'll contact you by email again once we've received
and verified your information. If you have any additional questions,
please feel free to respond to this message.

Sincerely,

Steven
The Google Checkout Team

Some of this information is supplied easily enough, but some of this is just vintage Paypal BS that cannot be verified without going to extra expenditures. And with the sort of last quarter year that some of us have been having (financial downturn, property damage, etc) this is not the time for it.

Some of the members here have found a way around this problem but it hasn't been really openly discussed. I understand you may have your reasons, but it does little to help everyone else. I really hope someone will address this issue here, via PM, or in an updated copy of the forum guide, as it relates to really any merchant situation--most notably, the virtual bank problem and the supplier information request.

Thanks for reading

aspkin 12-12-2007 03:35 PM

What problems are you having Jack?

ebayhateluv 12-12-2007 04:13 PM

I had to verify a small deposit in my checking acct when i signed up for google checkout last month, but thats it..

pauluss 12-13-2007 04:22 AM

googlecheckout is just PEFECT - there is not one flaw in it whatsoever

Ask supreme being all seeing and knowing oracle of knowledge Chris Hanson as he ALWAYS knows best and is never wrong

aspkin 12-13-2007 05:59 AM

ivegotinfo 12-13-2007 11:20 AM

see, thing with google checkout is that... i think they know a million times more about you than paypal.
i have all my email accounts with them, adwords account, adsense, they save all your searching history, they probably scavenge all your emails too, so scamming them id guess would be harder with ⊗⊗⊗⊗ photoshopped info.

longisland88 12-13-2007 11:31 AM

whats the reason for not just giving them your correct info? I haven't had this limitation, but I don't use GC that much. Maybe $300 a week.

Chris Hanson 12-13-2007 12:46 PM

JAck your scamming, thats why Google is checking you out. Google has been nothing but GOOD to me!

Speaking of adwords. For every dollar you spend on adwords you get $10 worth of free checkout processing

Ballsack 12-13-2007 12:56 PM

I got the EXACT SAME email after 3 payments months ago.

JackNoMore 12-13-2007 01:18 PM

Ah Chris, I've missed you too. I already have tickets for your new movie on Friday monsieur chipmunk. Supporting GCO full-heartedly now eh? I guess the other perfect payment source you pimped so shamelessly left you asking where's my money? :p

On to the answers

Aspkin, the company is listed under a business name, which is attached to a sur-name for publishing and business purposes. The card, however is listed under another name--another member of the company. However, this member does not make the financial decisions. I took a cue from Modee and some others with this method and carried this planning over to Google. It seemed to work for them.

In addition, Google is asking for supplier information. I've heard this happening to others, but this is the first time I've been asked. Since we deal with many items no longer being manufactured, this presents a major problem in that we have no supplier for these items. They're just in storage. How am I supposed to provide information that doesn't exist?

And lastly, some of the members here have supported programs like netspend--virtual bank accounts. I tested the waters and found this program to be a little flawed but overall promising (however that assessment has changed, but more on that later) It seemed to work fine with Paypal so I set up the account with Google Checkout. It appears that Google no longer accept Netspend or other virtual banking deposits. AT least, that's what they say. So as I'm waiting for some deposits to complete and for items to be shipped for the holidays, I find myself basically frozen, unable to receive the money and unable to ship the items. And without providing information to GCO that really doesn't even apply to our situation, I don't see that situation changing.

As this just happened to us, I'm sure it will happen to others soon if not already, hence the warning and hope that someone has found an answer to the problem.

JackNoMore 12-13-2007 01:20 PM

Ballsack, did you have to supply all the information that the email asked for in order to receive your payments, and if not how did you get around the requirements? Or was it just a warning email sent out automatically and nothing ever happened to your payouts?

I've gotten over 30 payments so far no problem..

And Jack like I told you before google is a business and they are only trying to protect their business. Google checkout dont know you from a grain of white rice. They are only verifying you to make sure you dont scam.

Once you have alot of money flow through your account Google is more then in their place to ask you for that info. It doesn't make them a bad account because they asked you to verify yourself. maybe they system sense scammers

JackNoMore 12-13-2007 02:31 PM

Bully for you. Although that means nothing really. I've received plenty of payments too. This latest one was for under $200. That's not being a business. That's being anal to the point of surpassing paypal.

And if you're going to play all nice in the forum and then turn round and spam my private mailbox with your sneaky snake face, at least have the decency to brush up on proper English before you come in. You dirtied up the place with your illiterate meanderings.

Chris Hanson 12-13-2007 03:14 PM

Spam your mailbox..ohhh. Nice try Jack.. Hey hows my english with this one--> "Jack you are a scammer and you were frooze by google checkout because they saw you coming a mile away".. Care to critique and elaborate on that??

Even Stevie Wonder can see your scamming

JackNoMore 12-13-2007 03:32 PM

Anyone? Anyone?

Pretty atrocious actually. "frooze"? What the hell? LOL

Nice try. By the way, spam has been deleted.

ebayhateluv 12-13-2007 03:32 PM

Chris Hanson 12-13-2007 08:47 PM

Chris, the greatest gift you could give is to mind your own business. Now back to the ignore pile with ye! :D

Paul, I tried that once. Didn't work. It wasn't ignored ;)

I'm not a glory seeker so you guys can take what I say or leave it. I know I've helped some people 'cause they told me and that's great. I feel no great need to pin that up on a marquee or feedback banner.

I'm not against the occasional tax deductible donation though ;) :p

Lol, pauluss is pissed at something.

Thanks! You made my bad day, not so bad. Keep up the good work! :)

pauluss 12-14-2007 06:37 PM

hi

i was PISSED when i posted in a drunken but also annoyed way yesterday, weeks of reading post after post or verbal garbage and open eneded rubbish, hit a nerve in me ...................anyhow, life goes on..............

There is a british saying that goes ''if you cant anything useful, dont say anything at all'' one my mother taught me and i stick by to this day

Info on eBay and PayPal suspensions is so sketchy and hearsay, nothing is for absolute certain as the goal posts are shifted every week/month it appears. Because in all honesty unless forum member here works in the 'code/script writing dept' for the bay of E or PP nobody knows the specific triggers for suspensions/restrictions, the more useless and pointless questions that get asked on here the more the focus drifts away from the matters in hand

ie if i listed a VERO'ed item on a full moon after a leap year without accepting PayPal but mentioniong GoogleCheckOut in my automated email will Meg Whitman come and w**k my neigbours cat off ??

get real folk - it is FACT we need here NOT fiction/hearsay

Chris Hanson 02-09-2008 12:40 AM

^^yeah u didnt take ur pills.. Modee WTF are u talking about?? Also this post is soooo sooo old

ebayhateluv 02-10-2008 01:26 PM

Well, I ran my very first batch of sales through google,, (Thanks to Modee who showed me how to direct invoice ) :)
-- I did split sales, and they totaled over $1k for 1 customer.. I was waiting for a limit,, the funds showed up in the bank acct,, just like amazon does..
No Problems.. :)

Triflin 02-10-2008 05:11 PM

That is very encouraging!!

lunamoon 02-14-2008 02:13 AM

Well, i usually use google checkout for all my auction, i just told customer to send me their email so i can send invoice by email from GG to them, and i've never had any problem with that all the ways, some days i got payment almost $1000, maximum but it is still ok, but the thing is i have to wait the customers to send me email and then i sent them invoice, then i chrage then send send them shipping inf. it's really cool, no problem so far, but my ebay acc was limited because of paypal crap! but not because GG checkout!

Ballsack 02-14-2008 07:04 AM

If you received $1000 then you exceeded your monthly minimum of $500. I thought you couldn't go over that amount without giving up your ssn?

ebayhateluv 02-14-2008 09:30 AM

HI:
Thats why I was very nervous, emailing Modee every 15 minutes.. "whats gonna happen"??? :)

--I even did a no, no,,"split sales"... but it went through, and
FYI--
the acct is in a state ive never been to, the ck acct in another state,
and address is virtual...... (i was testing it, last year, never thought i'd use it) :)

Ballsack 02-14-2008 09:49 AM

Interesting. If this is the case I wonder if they are even enforcing that rule. Are you still exceeding your limit and getting payments fine? Any calls from them?

ebayhateluv 02-14-2008 09:52 AM

HI-only did that 1 batch, it was for a man ive sold to before, he got his pp limited, and i didnt want to wait for 2 weeks to get the $1k from ccnow..

Actually you can take in any max amount with GC, but you are only able to payout $500 a month until account has SSN#, the rest of your money carry over to the next month

ebayhateluv 02-14-2008 10:10 AM

Date Starting Balance + Purchases + OtherActivity- Payout = Ending Balance

Feb 5, 2008 $1138.00 - $1138.00 $0.00 Feb 1, 2008 $0.00 $1138.00 $1138.00

>> This shows, I recd 1138 on 2/1- they pd out 1138 on 2/5, balance -0-.

Ballsack 02-14-2008 10:12 AM

That seems to contradict what Hanson said. I'll report what happens when I go over.

ebayhateluv 02-14-2008 10:15 AM

Maybe because I use a Common name? Woo Fung Chiong?? :)) Dont know,
I couldnt get ANYONE to show me how to even invoice through google ckout, until Modee came back.. :)
