You DO NOT have to pay PRIVATE parking tickets

Hi guys,

Well I went to a Mcdonalds the other day. My key snapped off in my car lock and I had to sort it out. When I had sorted it I drove home.

I was dismayed to receive a parking ticket from MET Parking. This company opertate in all Mcdonalds car parks in the UK.

I outstayed my welcome by 20 minutes due to the broken key and they hit me with a massive £50 fine. This is a discounted price. If I fail to pay in 7 days then they expect me to pay the full price of £100.

Also they say if you fail to pay this then you will get a county Court judgement pay for solicitors fees escalating the cost to approx £1200.

I nearly paid it then I did some research on the company.

Oh by the way here is the ticket:

Impressive isnt is with my car back and front.

Anyway Watch this video.

Now this program is Watchdog and you can trust the advice here. All UK residents will know this.

So I was poised to pay then saw this video.

These companies are scammers. I mean £50.

They work on fear. And our society conditions us to obey.

I will update you on what happens but trust me nothing happens.

Do not pay these scammers.

However please note that parking tickets from Local COUNCILS are a different kettle of fish and they are more likely to persue you.

If you want to do something useful with £50 find a good charity.

Dont line the pockets of these criminals.

We are starting to see stuff like this in the US as well. But generally speaking, only the GOVERNMENT has the power to FINE people.

Private businesses here use towing companies to police their lots. They tow your car and force you to pay a fee to get the car back. But this is only legal in SOME jurisdictions and it is not a fine. It is also relatively rare, and only used where parking is at a premium. Even then, most businesses will only call towers when people park in their lot and then leave the premesis to patronize another business.

I'm surprised that a company like McDonald's would try to use such a tactic when a customer experiences a car problem. I mean, if you park in their lot and head across the street to the Burger King, that would be one thing. But to use this against a customer, especially one experienceing trouble beyond their control is just STUPID BUSINESS. I mean, HOW LIKELY ARE YOU TO EVER GO BACK TO THAT MCDONALDS?

It's not like you WANTED to break off the key. If it were MY store, I'd be trying to help you locate a locksmith or other repair person. It would be the decent thing to do.

Does eBay/PayPal own that particular McDonald's? :D

Never EVER pay a Debt Collection Agency. They're the bottom feeders of society and have no powers contrary to what they may try and convince you to believe.

Anybody with trouble PM me and I'll give you a letter to get rid of them for good.

Madsam would you ever pay ebay collection agents?

(not that you would ever hear from them if you are in stealth)

What is the score with ebay collection agencies? How far do they chase?

i have an easy filing system, anything that looks like a fine gets filed away straight into the bin
