| | | original | 10-10-2010 05:06 PM | People hating on you... I've been doing the eBay thing since my senior year of high school and I'm in my early 20's now, so it's been a while.
I remember I got my first car, that I paid cash for. It wasn't an old beater like most of my classmates cars, it was 2 years old at the time.
My car got keyed all the way round on the second day I drove it to school. The guy was a moron tho, they just installed cameras the week before, so he got caught and paid my deductible to the insurance company. I didn't press charges.
I guess people hate on you if your young and have money?
Has anyone experienced anything similar to this?
Also, the guy who keyed my car all those years ago, now works now at Walmart full-time. What a classy individual. |
| aspkin | 10-10-2010 05:25 PM | It must have been a nice car.. who does that to cars these days?
I got rid of my flashy cars awhile back, I didn't like the attention they got. Not to mention flashy cars seem to get pulled over a lot more then a regular car. |
| original | 10-10-2010 05:32 PM | It was nice in comparison to everything else that was parked on the student parking lot. I bet the average cost of a car in the student parking lot was around $3000, mine was about 7x that amount.
Since then, I have gotten rid of that car. I also thought it was too flashy, especially since I'm getting older.
I'm also trying seem more "normal" around my friends and family, they already think I'm a freeloader because I don't have a 9-5 like they do.
Driving a expensive/flashy car doesn't help that. |
| GreenBean | 10-10-2010 05:41 PM | Bet you pounds to peanuts you strutted around the school like a young jock? Sme poeple dont have it to go out & make money.
Good for you for earning the bread to buy the auto. Now see about developing some tolerance.
Then you can be called a classy guy too :peace: |
| original | 10-10-2010 06:31 PM | I never once bragged about how much money I was making. I keep my financial information personal, even to my family. I'm very thankful that I have found a way to monetize myself that is completely unconventional and retentively easy.
However, there are obvious signs that I do have money from a "mysterious place" and people have noticed.
I guess this is what caused jealousy, then hate followed shortly after.
I'm a sharp classy guy :) |
| GreenBean | 10-10-2010 06:38 PM | HaHa! S'long as you think that, you are half way there :thumb: Rest comes later.:peace: |

Haha, but yeah I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm quite young at 21 and I make a considerable amount. It's not really the hate I care about, haters are gonna hate.
What does get on my nerves is because my family and friends know about my business now, they ask me to help them out financially. They think I'm rich or something which is not the case....yet. It's not so much trouble it's just because making this amount of money is so new to me I'm still learning how to manage all of it and people constantly asking for money is stressing me out. Can't exactly say no when my 28 year old bro is asking for $200 to lend him so my nephew can play flag football or if my mom asks to pay some of her rent because her real estate business is failing. |
| Burning | 10-11-2010 01:19 AM | Justin Beiber is a good example in regards to this subject...haha |
| MadSam | 10-11-2010 09:31 AM | Last I heard jamblix, your buddies thought you were a drug dealer. How did they find out? |
| aking | 10-11-2010 10:30 AM | well what the heck kinda car was it? sorry, i cant help my curiosity. |
| MadSam | 10-11-2010 11:08 AM | Yeah pictures please, and I'll put up a picture of my Lexus. Do I feel a thread coming on for people's cars? |

But now, I have a 2009 Honda Civic SI Coupe. A lot less flashy then the Infiniti, and a ton better on gas. |

| JohnnyBoy | 10-11-2010 09:05 PM | Getting a thousand and one questions about your source of income is something you must get used to. I just got asked about 2 hrs ago. Get a part time job somewhere to blend in. |

Wow..I'm not shocked about the car you have, but it's the insurance. If I wanted, I could always purchase a sports car, but the insurance is SUPER expensive for teens. If I were to get insurance separately, it would cost me upwards of up to $400 a month.
How much are you paying in insurance btw..I just find everything overpriced in Canada.... |

For my SI, it's $1300/year.
Both cars with $200 deductible and $2,000,000 3rd party liability.
I have a 20% discount tho cause its been 4 years without any at fault accident for me. In 6 months it will be 25% :)
Our insurance is 50/50 publicly-privately owned here. Rates and deductibles are VERY low. |
| JohnnyBoy | 10-15-2010 12:38 PM | Don't go buying a truck. Insurance is bad enough when you are young with a car. I was 19 when I bought a new truck and insurance was like $4000 a year. A few years later and it has went down but still was high at like $1700 a year. I had full coverage with deductible at $500 or $750. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 03:16 PM. | |
