Before a year ago, I lived in Chicago, mostly in downtown highrises. Trick-or-treating was just not done. Most buildings had parties for the kids.
Now I live in a more suburban setting. I had no idea what to expect with the trick-or-treaters. A friend of mine brought me $80 worth of candy and told me I would need it.
IT WASN'T ENOUGH! I ended up buying another $40 worth.
Is this normal?
What do you guys spend on candy for Halloween? |
| aking | 10-31-2010 11:41 PM | Candy is expensive but I definitely don't spend $80. I may spend about $30 for a decent amount. When it's out, we close up shop. |
| aspkin | 10-31-2010 11:43 PM | Maybe you gave away too much candy to each person. Usually a piece or two will do it.
This year I went trick-or-treating with my nieces. Their candy was my candy. :p |
| MadSam | 10-31-2010 11:59 PM | You should've done what they did to me in Manhattan. When I was a kid (13 I think) I went trick or treating in New York, most all you got from anybody was candy corn. A couple of mouthfuls I thought, "This stuff is okay..." A couple more and I thought "I can't stand this stuff!" A few dollars gets you a big pack of candy corn that never seems to go down and believe me, people don't come back. That is of course if you just want to get rid of them, spending $120 on trick or treaters jeff you must like it. |
| jeffweico | 11-01-2010 12:57 AM | I confess, I love Halloween. It's my favorite holiday. It's just FUN without having a deep meaning. I remember, as a kid, dressing up in fun costumes and getting candy. In my adult years, it kinda became an excuse to drink (like I ever NEEDED an excuse!).
But I love kids and don't mind passing out candy once a year. I didn't know what to expect, but there are a LOT OF KIDS where I live. Next year I'm planning to get a couple of fog machines and some nice decorations. All this stuff is incredibly cheap now.
And I might have had some shrinkage in my candy inventory. My cat swears that he knows nothing about it, but he couldn't explain the Sweetart stuck to his paw...

| oompaloompa | 11-01-2010 01:45 PM | I spent about £2, and ate most of it myself (shame the poison would have quietened them a little)...think kids are scared of my house, bit gothic, or maybe its my warty warty green face.......... |

You could do what I know some people do, keep all the lights off to your house, no decorations, a sign that reads "no candy" and you wouldn't have to spend a penny, but that's mean  |

MEN trick or treating still....ahhahah! |
| MadSam | 11-04-2010 06:26 PM | Lol or you could just go out... |
| digitalslave | 11-04-2010 08:10 PM | Dude, $120 worth of candy definitely isn't normal..sorry. |
| digitalslave | 11-04-2010 08:13 PM | I mean, I spent $7 on candy and thought I was going to have at least half of it for myself. Well it only took about 30 minutes to give it away, so when that happened I simply shut off the front door light. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 04:05 PM. | |
