Ipad Clone

I just bought one of those android ipad clones, I did my research before purchasing them and I'm excited to receive mine!!! There are many forums online dealing with modding certain android tablets.

I paid $200 for a 10.2" with 1ghz processor...

MadSam 11-09-2010 11:49 PM

I was just about to buy the Samsung Galaxy (never took to the Ipad) but I didn't like it when I saw it. It was more like a large Iphone at 7". I may have to go with the flow and get an Ipad...

MadSam 11-09-2010 11:59 PM

What's the quality like for $200?

rsot 11-10-2010 10:26 AM

Please keep us posted Burning - I am interested as well - been thinking iPad vs. clone but I would prefer something windows-based - mac os doesnt support some of my work-related programs.

I also want to be able to gamble using it ha online for kix.

Well..you get what you pay for. Don't expect the same quality as an ipad.

Some android apps do not work with the clone. It's more of a toy....

rsot 11-10-2010 04:10 PM

Is Youtube written as Yotobe?

I don't really know, since I haven't received it yet..

I will post pictures of the item as soon as I get it, but it might take 7-14 days to receive it since the damn person sent it via China Post. I'm sure I can get it for free, but I'm an honest ebayer...;)

Check on youtube for video's..

Type is ZT-180...

There are many video and reviews on this baby!

Android OS is pretty versatile so you should get some use out of it. Not sure what apps would be crippled, its sort of open source. Well, not really. But I cant see Google being able to cripple functions if you did a fresh Android install. My only experience with android is 1.5 so its a bit "last year"

But I was under the impression the hardware on the clones was pretty weak and thats the biggest concern, no?

Well..it all depends on the model you get. Some of the CRAPPY tablets are cheaply designed with very crappy firmware. Just make sure you get the latest android firmware along with tablet. The ZT-180 has 2.1 android firmware.

If you want a toy..then this is it! You can buy apps on the android market place. There are forums telling you what games work and which ones don't. Youtube works on it aswell, and the processor is pretty decent at 1 ghz...

The nice thing about Droid is its just an OS so you should be able to dump roms on there at will just like the phones. I have to assume there are folks making customized and optimized versions for them. It all boils down to how solid and reliable the hardware is. Could get some unstable operation.

Keep us posted. I was looking at these but was worried they wouldn't function well due to poor mainboards

Yes, you are correct. There are many forums online with people who have made and uploaded there custom OS. There's a forum called slatedroid or something like that. It's a whole forum dealing with these ipad clones...

The zt-180 is also easy to open up, some people have upgraded the battery aswell....

MadSam 11-22-2010 05:36 PM

Has this arrived yet? I'm curious to see how it holds up...

Burning 11-22-2010 06:21 PM

Ehhhh..waiting for it to arrive. I should check my mail box..maybe it's there! :)

Burning 11-22-2010 06:50 PM

No item in the mail. : (

It might come a bit late, since it's from china and the person shipped it out via snail mail..

MadSam 11-30-2010 12:58 AM

Wow, it doesn't usually hit the super slow international mail period until at least December.

Still waiting for the time. Next time I suggest you pay $10 extra and get DHL or EMS...

MadSam 12-03-2010 01:51 AM

This person must be walking to Canada...

pod 12-10-2010 05:19 PM

You get this yet? Curious on quality...

jbluntz 12-10-2010 05:26 PM

I refused the item due to the fact that I realized that this item was useless for me and I had no need for one.

jbluntz 12-10-2010 05:30 PM

All that wait for nothing lol why was it useless? I was thinking about getting one myself. I wanted to see if I could download vmplayer use a linux flash drive and android tethering on it.

Imback2010 12-10-2010 05:42 PM

Damn what happened bro?

You were so excited... Lol

lakeman 12-10-2010 06:00 PM

Wow that's not cool.. You buy something then decide you don't want it and refuse it? You're going to make the seller eat shipping costs and wasted his time...

It took almost three weeks to arrive. The seller told me he would originally send it via EMS but instead shipped it out via hongkong post. I researched more about these little devices and came to conclusion that it will break after a couple of months due to overheating issues..

Yeah, I didn't want to say anything until after you got it because you seemed pretty excited about it and I didn't want to ruin it if you were happy with it, but I remember when the Iphone 3g clones were first mass produced and advertised at a third the price. There were lots of videos distributed and as you opened the box and first took them out you could hardly tell the difference between it and the real thing. But then after as little as a couple days people were reporting that the microphone and speaker stopped working all together and then after a couple weeks it wouldn't turn on at all. As I always say, never get counterfeit electronic goods - there are a lot worse stories.

Actually I'm using a new laptop w/ vmware so don't really have much need for used laptops anymore but I like the idea of having an ipad clone for my car due to it's size and shape. They have alot of good reviews on them at shanzai.com guess it depends on which model you get since some are better than others.

Ya thats what I thought. I have bought electronics from China and they do the job, but pretty short term. Must be inferior materials all around in the circuit boards because even simple electronics don't last. Didn't think one that was running a CPU and software would fair well

I seen some tablets in the store and I think a small netbook would be more use. but thats just me.
