New GMail Account Creation wants Phone #??
 

Hi

Yesterday i tried to make a new GMail acc - it asked me to put in a phone number for verification.

Does anyone know what has triggered this or is it random - i tried to make another and it asked me for one again.

I was using a new user account and fresh ip.

Needless to say I did'nt bother :rant:

Yes. 5 emails per computer. You can use a google voice number to verify new email accounts

i havent got five though - how do they recognise the pc?

YUK - So that brings me back to my old worry - if they can get it why can't eb & pp - god I wished I'd have used a different machine. :rant:

Not sure about - I get the same message as you OP - prob cookies - have you tried making gmail accounts with new user account same IP?

Yeah, this happens, not MAC address, likely cookies/IP.

Its google dont put anything past them. They prolly know you from a mile away...

Ive gotten this several times.

yeah just use google voice numbers to verify. Then delete the google voice account when you max out the emails it can use, rinse and repeat.

the pc was 100% clean - no cookies/flash - plus new user account - just opened - dongle ip - ip had not been used - ip was reported to be about 40-50 miles away from given address though -totally different area.

It happened to me with my brand new ipad first time using it.
Probably a new requirement, nothing to worry an easy fix :)

It could possibly be random as well to ensure you are a 'human'.

can u please recommend any other free email accounts that are ok with stealth - I know they may not be quite as good.

FYI, yahoo is starting to charge money in order to forward emails to another account. You have to purchase there yahoo plus subscription in order to enable this feature. I created a couple of accounts and later realized, they were useless as I would have to manually check em'.
