Norton is one of the worst AVs of all time to be honest. There are plenty of other protective suites that costs less or free that can match its protection offerings, if not surpassing it.

AVG is ranked even worse than Norton due to its ridiculously high false detection rate.

Avast and MB are alright, some other ones that I highly recommend to use are Microsoft Security Essential and Comodo Free. Both of these two AV suites are highly popular, offers great protection, and are free. For those that wants a paid AV for whatever reason, Kaspersky and ESET are also great.

Keep in mind that you do NOT need more than one AV. Having more than one AV will drastically slow down your system, and cause unwanted conflicts.

Of the espoused ones mentioned, Comodo is good. It sorts out problems, even with the free version. AVG is aces too.

When I 1st installed AVG (& had maldooverlackeys too) it gave a nice little message about the conflict.

Never liked norton (trojans etc). Used to use that care4.com (greenie site/whatever). Picked up lots of nasties & Norton never did its job.

(Heck, that was hard to write in a polite manner )

Good stuff - I was using AVG for a long time but figured Norton free with trialpay was a good bet. Did not know about comodo so time to look around.

Also, rsot, with this problem with IE, have you moved away from Firefox?

My bestest 'pooter runs FF 3.1 (or maybe 3.4) and I have few glitches. Suppose we get all these new things thrown at us.

Just for consideration & comments

To be honest, I wouldn't even use Norton even if they gave me lifetime free subscription and updates for all my computers. Lots of computer experts consider Norton itself to be a malarware itself, which I completely agree upon.

I don't understand your first sentence, are you saying Firefox is bad? Also, why use FF3.X when 4 is out?

I think the reason older version of Firefox are used is that the question of what info is provided to eb, pp, etc. by the new browsers - apparently few ppl have told me that the new browsers don't keep your computer info so secret anymore.

Kaspersky is the best. I got it and I have tried mcafee and norton paid subcriptions for years and they do not compare to kaspersky. Kaspersky does not pop up that much and does not slow down my pc like norton and mcafee does.

Anyone considered Deep Freeze. I used to use this a few years back.

Too unpractical and inconvenient for a mere home pc.

NOrton is the worst av to use.

I recommend Malwarebytes. Its what you use to remove most viruses so why not use it to begin with that way you never have a problem to begin with... :D
