hard disk camera/camcorder how to erase

so what is simplest way of erasing pics and movies from a hard disk type camera? I know how you do it on a PC with special software, but on a camera? Basically deleted pics get taped over right? but they can be recovered?...need a VEERY simple answer as I do not do tech...

Is it erase pictures to clear your memory

Or is it recover erased pictures

What model camera? Number of things could be done.

its to completely erase pics from hard disk. item is for sale right now so rather not say make, other than on pm, if it helps, but it is an older model and I am upgrading and I have no clue if it is safe to just sell it as I know things can be recovered
