help installing new hard drive on computer
 

need help from tech gurus here

my situation:
toshiba satellite laptop had a bad hard drive....replaced hard drive with a different brand (hitachi branded hard drive) but same storage capacity (120gb).
i went into the system menu, and it's says 2gb, thus i can not load any operating system on there......

let me know if anyone has any suggestions

first things first - is the hard drive you have just put in used or new?

also have you tried to run a windows disc and see what happens?

also trying the hard drive in another laptop or desktop would determine if its the drive or your laptop.


what is the model number of the laptop?


there are many reasons why a bios will not pick up a hard drive correctly.

let me know the model number anyway.

Burn a live linux disk such as Ubuntu and use Gpart to partition the drive properly. There most likely are other hidden or unrecognized partitions on the drive
