Which is better: Samsung Galaxy S2 or Iphone 4s?

Don't know if this question has been asked round here,
and I was in the business of lookin for a new phone awhile ago
to replace my SE W580i. So thought this could help people
decide which of these phones to get, in case they are looking
for a new phone themselves....

Lets try to make fair comparisons here,
and state your point of views and experiences as to why
you think one phone is better suited than the other.
As most people (not all), cannot afford more than one smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S2 (includes Skyrocket) vs. Iphone 4s
Samsung vs Apple
Android vs iOS.

Which is better in your opinion?

*Wish there was an option to include a poll in this thread

Is there any other phone than iphone?

No discussion really

Care to elaborate on that? Have you even tried an Android phone?

Gamefreak 02-13-2012 02:40 PM

its all about preference really. The SG s2 is an AWESONE phone. I suggest you get anything other than an IPHONE unless your getting it CHEAP. The new iphone will be out sometime this year.

sergfro 02-13-2012 04:39 PM

I have the S2 and it is awesome. Iphone is just a fad. Just like Monster Beats...tons of other headphones that are cheaper and way better. Its a fashion thing. The ones who actually go into detail on the specs know that the majority of android phones are superior to any iphone out there. Also no 4g on the iphones.

xxxhustlerxxx 02-13-2012 05:15 PM

yer i would never buy a iphone in my life! just for people who like fashion n want to fit in. its a trend. so many better phones out there

yotano211 02-13-2012 07:28 PM

Fashion thing or not, you have to love the iphone's long battery life. The thing runs at least double over most other phones.

AmazonStealth 02-13-2012 08:09 PM

When it comes on ebay/amazon, a blackberry was done me wonders.

no_rat_race_for_me_thx 02-13-2012 11:33 PM

i got the refurbished galaxy s2 for $10.50 !!!

@ att's website - i bought a refurbished galaxy s2 for $10.50 !!!

of course i had two sign my soul over for another 2 yrs. but i couldn't pass that up!

this thing is pretty awesome - huge display / high quality cam / super thin & light

-- my only complaint is the battery - but a few tweaks in the settings gives you a decent boost in that area.

-- did i say huge display?

only thing this thing needs is ICE CREAM SANDWICH

unkown5454 02-13-2012 11:44 PM

Samsung Note releasing end of February on AT&T. 5.3" screen and 2,500 mAh battery. iPhone 4S and GS2 will bow in shame once again.

AyeDGAF 02-14-2012 12:00 AM

cool people have iphones, geek android

Have inquired about updating the 2.3.5 Gingerbread android version
on a Galaxy S2 to Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS),
only thing is, it's very tricky, and am not entirely sure if it's already
actually released and allowable by Samsung to do so on the S2.
Heard alot of bricking stories by owners who tried to update to ICS.

But having said that, ICS is by far the best Android platform on the market.

@ unkown5454: Indeed. But hasn't it already been released some time ago? The Samsung Galaxy Note N700? Or are you talking about another model that is coming out, I haven't been aware of yet?
The Galaxy Note is an awe-inspiring device. A hybrid (Phone + Tablet = Phoblet). But really really expensive though....

sergfro 02-14-2012 01:28 AM

My S2 is over 65% battery life after not plugging it in for a whole day.. My co-workers iphone4 just about dead at 8%

Look at my flag...not your side of the pond. Sure, I can buy it unlocked and ship it to my country, but I am talking about a carrier branded device. Also, the Samsung Note available now does not have LTE frequencies and the USA release will.

AmazonStealth 02-14-2012 02:33 AM

The price of the phone should have no impact on what phone you buy. The contract is where you should place your focus. Similar to printers/ink.

Javelin 02-14-2012 02:50 AM

@ Unkown5454: I am aware of your flag, which my flag is a part of (former US Trust Territory, which is still governed and run by the USA in some way, much like Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam...), but that's irrelevant. Sure the branded version (AT&T) will come out this February; although it already has trumped both phones in the global market place; and probably be at a much cheaper price than it's unlocked $699 counterpart. There is an LTE version of the S2; Skyrocket released last November/December I believe, which is the phone I had decided to get. :)

@ AmazonStealth: Yeah, but for some places, like where I am from. There aren't any contracts on phones. We use GSM Sim cards and buy prepaid load cards. I wish we had the option to get contracts on phones with carriers, helps save on new phones.

unkown5454 02-14-2012 03:06 AM

Well the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core chip is beginning to make its rounds. HTC and Sammy already have the devices coming very soon :)...I am patiently waiting! :hail: :hail:

Qualcomm is making some ripples with the Snapdragon S4 quad core, but not ready for commercial production.

Battery life depends on lots of major factors. How much use of the battery on any giving day and the condition of the battery. Also on the technology of the battery. Some batteries use a more advanced chemical formula to give better energy storage.

But it has been proving many times on many battery benchmark tests that Iphones beat almost all other smartphones. And no I am not a Apple fanboy, their too expensive for my taste.

BiN4RY 02-14-2012 03:46 AM

Android beats iOS any day. I'm currently waiting for the Galaxy S3, will buy it as soon as it comes out.

oge 02-14-2012 12:19 PM

Iphone all day .....LOL @ iphone is a fad..... Iphone has more & better apps ......

unlike Android apps that always crash and behave weird most apps on Android need a google account and sim card.......

iphone doesn't need a google account and you take out your sim card and all the apps work on wifi

IMO iphone all day........

GTB 02-14-2012 12:39 PM

think there is advantages and disadvantages to both

so it all boils down to personal preference

although most will lean towards iphone just because its an iphone and costs a bomb

me included

they dont cost so much for nawt

Ultimate 02-14-2012 02:48 PM

This is neverending question like "what is better Mac or Pc, BMW or Mercedes...
Both phones are almost the same by technical functionality, but main factor is very subjective for each of us.
Just put in Your hand each of phone for browsing for more than 10 minutes and You will find Your feel which one is better for You.

pod 02-14-2012 06:40 PM

Pointless question. Nobody that uses iPhone thinks much of Android and vise versa

iPhone is a dumbed down smartphone. Its very easy to get used to. They have made it very easy and user friendly out of the box. Android is more customizable and better suited to techie folks

Poor battery life is an Android myth. Its user error. Every android phone I have had over the years is brutal out of the box, but get rid of the junk widgets updating every 5 minutes and you are fine. A custom rom and you are even better. All my android phones have been 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 days after I get done with them.

I know people that have gone from android to iphone and they are happy because its easy to use. Basically they just cant understand how to use the phone properly, thats all

But again, mute argument. iPhone users think they have "the" phone and android users know otherwise. If you like your crap simple and easy, go iphone. If you are a little techie, go android. They both are just tools to access the internet and communicate

LoopHole 02-14-2012 10:12 PM

I've basically had every phone out there. And im not jumping on the bandwagon when i say iphone is the best phone. It really is. It looks great and its the best user friendly phone in my experience.

Once you go iphone you don't go back. Get one and you will see what i mean.

pod 02-14-2012 10:27 PM

iphone is a dumbed down smartphone. I stand by that. If you like it, thats great. Thats really all that matters. With anything.

Its not the best, thats subjective. Not sure why so many iphone people think its so great just because its easy ;)

I'll take a phone that hasn't been made idiot proof, thanks... ;)

MM78 02-14-2012 11:53 PM

I waited for years before getting an Iphone (3GS) and I love it to death. Once jailbroken it's totally customizable to your needs and wants. With Cydia, Winterboard, and hacked games/appz it really does it all. I only paid $100 with 2 yr contract.

Not necessaries true. iPhones and iOS has been lagged behind by the latest high end Android phones by miles.

It has more apps and that's about it, I wouldn't say the apps available are nessesary any better.

iPhone doesn't need a google account, you're right. But it needs an itune account

Also where did you get the idea that all Android phones have no SIM card slot? None of the apps requires a SIM card to operate.

You are literally the first person I have heard saying that. Everyone else stated the opposite because of how feature lacking iOS and iPhone hardware itself is, including myself.

I don't mean to sound like a fanboy, but this thread is filled with misinformed information about Android vs iOS. However, what pod said is 100% correct about iPhone. It's user-friendly and got a large marketplace and that's about it.

MM78 02-15-2012 01:37 AM

You may need to register an itunes account but you don't really need it to install games/apps/music/videos. There's 3rd party Software that does it all without Itunes.

Except that requires jailbreaking and is considered warez. Anything comes off of the App Store requires a good standing iTune accounts.

Since you've brought up this topic, Android by default allows "sideloading" right out the box without needing to root/jailbreak, which is pretty much installing apps that are not directly downloaded from the Marketplace

FandangoKango 02-15-2012 02:46 AM

The iphone will be like the razr that came out years ago and was the top gamer for a while until others came out!

unkown5454 02-15-2012 03:32 AM

Motorola never made themselves into the nearly half a trillion dollar conglomerate that Apple is today. I'd say this situation is a bit different ;). Recent reports show the company is worth more than its 17 major competitors combined and nearly $100 billion in liquid cash.

Pringles 02-15-2012 08:57 AM

I would go with the iPhone just because I've been running Stealth on it for over 2 months with no issues

The S2 may require tethering to avoid issues with flash, meaning that you may have to avoid browsing on the actual device (unconfirmed).

As LoopHole said, iPhone really is the most popular phone for a reason

From my experience, I would say that iPhone apps are generally much better built than Android apps and I prefer the feel of iOS

rsot 02-15-2012 12:36 PM

What about LG Optimus?

Yes, its a dumbed down smartphone that people find easy. Doesn't make it better, makes it simple. Not a bad thing, but iphone people have to stop thinking the phone is better because the masses like it. Being simple and better are not the same. Two and a half Men is one of the highest rated shows in the last decade. Because its better? No, because its simple. People like simple...

I would hold out for awhile, the Samsung Galaxy S3, and iphone 5 will be released in 3-4 months.

You can't be serious if you honestly believe any iphone could compete with the Galaxy S series, it makes the iphone look like cheap toy.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Is better, beats iphone 4s in any category you name.

For ebay n that though i would suggest you get a tablet as the screens double the size ,just makes it a whole lot easyier imo

northernlad 07-18-2012 07:58 AM

From my experience, I utterly LOVE LOVE LOVE!! my Samsung Galaxy S2.... it is truly the most advanced smartphone on the market in the UK in my view (possibly other than the S3 which basically has stuff on it I'll never need to use).

The only advantage the iphone 3 had over my S2, is that it is a heavy thing like having a brick in your hand, which I prefer... sometimes the S3 is so light I drop it.

I've noticed in the UK, an awful lot of chavs and Gippos have the iphone (probably get it from Brighthouse on weekly payments, instead of actually feeding their kids with their benefits money) ... I think I agree to a large degree, its a 'fashion' , fad or 'zeitgeist' thing.

To summarise;

Iphone = trendies, Mac people and chavs on contract
Android = people already brand locked and perhaps geeky types.

BiN4RY 07-18-2012 10:41 PM

I'm currently using a Galaxy S3 and i love it very much. Hardware wise, it's the best smartphone out there right now.

The Galaxy S2 was also an amazing phone packed with good features and hardware that is also backed with a massive development community. I'd pick either over an iPhone any day.
