Buyer incentives?

I think buyer incentives are very useful although it may seem as if you are losing money i have found it can be profitable in the long run. Basically you are positively reinforcing the behavior you want repeated (the act of buying). If you are just selling random stuff from around the house, then its not that necessary.

I give away ebay gift certificates to 1 or 2 sellers that bought with paypal. But it depends on what the person bought...if you bought a $10 webcam from me, highly unlikey to get a gift certificate. However i did advertise it on my auctions as "If you are the winner of this auction you MAY be eligible for a special promotion". Buyers like the idea of getting something free. I also found that a number of persons that got the gift certificate were repeat buyers as well.

I was also thinking of making referral program but i havent decided how to set that up yet.
What kind of incentives (if any) do you use?

Ebay had a Promotional Buyer Credit program a couple years ago- It worked kinda like Discover card- with cash back, it gave them 1% back in cash, they refunded via paypal, the buyers liked it,
Currently- I offer free upgrades on shipping. If they are repeat buyers, if sales under $100- i upgrade to 2 day air for free, if over $500- i upgrade to next day air, if over $1,000- i ship for free.
