Why Not have a baby in Canada

Next time my wife is Pregnant I don't think we will be visiting Canada during her 7th,8th or 9th Month!

Australian couple has $1 million hospital bill after baby born in B.C. - Yahoo! News

oompaloompa 03-30-2012 03:59 AM

we get health tourists all the time in UK,.
They fly here to have their babies, operations, do not pay a penny.
they should pay because they did not pay taxes here...

but $1 million? how come it is so much? that is way over.

Everyone knows birth is not covered by insurance as it is pre-existing and planned not a sickness..I mean other complications or if the child is sick, might be covered but not the basic birth itself.

GreenBean 03-30-2012 04:08 AM

What?
They paid a $1,000,000 so the sprog would not be born in Canada. :pound:

Got off cheaply :canada:

Actually birth is covered by major insurance policies in the USA, at least that I know of.

Another example of the buyer not reading the fine print. :shhh:

A sucker born every day and two to take him.

LoopHole 04-05-2012 05:55 PM

I have babies all over the world.... haven't paid anything. Maybe im just lucky :)

imjustme 04-05-2012 06:14 PM

Something tells me we're not getting the whole story through that article. $1,000,000 for a 3 months hospital stay equals about $11,000 in hospital costs - per day.

Now what could that be for? Surely the room and food can't cost $11,000 per day, unless she shared a suite with Paris Hilton for 3 months.

GreenBean 04-05-2012 10:17 PM

Baby got defined as micro-premature.

That's usually one to one nursing 24/7.
Pain relief woud run 24/7.

Child may have had surgeries

That would become costly. If they were repatriated to Australia on a medical flight( as opposed to a commerical flight) there's big cost too.:canada:

:faint:

Just one of the things We Canadians are not proud off. It is just like in Irobots with Will Smith. Programming takes over Logic.

For The couple why go on a vacation when you are just weeks from the due date.

For The Hospital Give the couple a break and just charge then a regular fee rather then this astronomical abominate amount.

Her Australian doctor passed her fit to travel.

She appears to have left Australia sometime before the 26th week of pregnancy.
Was within a reasonable time frame
Many doctors advise not travelling after that time.
Airlines allow travel for pregnant women up to the 35th week.

Quite a lot of mothers to be hide their pregnancy to allow the child to be born in certain countries. Birth gives the baby citizenship
( useless info;))

Tale of two countries.
