When Family/Friends ask what you do for a living what do you say?

A little rude to tell your family to mind their own business i think, i'd just say i run my own business and what do you do? and no more after that :shhh:

Entrepreneur is my job title officially with my family and friends.

This just rises even more questions, I used to say this too. Now I just tell em' I buy and sell things to keep it real simple. Then when they ask "what do you buy and sell?" I say "anything that makes a profit" then change the subject. Real easy this one try it..

If you meet my family you would understand.

I do exclude my brothers. But their wives & relo's. No way.:croc:

What do you do for a living?

I work online doing about 20 different things.

They stop asking after that because at that point they believe I work extremely hard to earn a penny unless the person asking is around my age or younger then I say buy and sell things online.

99% of my family members are self-employed, so they kinda already know but people I meet ask and I just tell them I do sales.

The best question still by far is, "Where do you buy you stuff?, every time someone ask I almost start to laugh and give them the, "Why you asking me a stupid question like that?" then they realize they just asked a stupid question and move on.

I don't tell anyone anything, I only say the same thing, into sales. The closest person that kinda knows what I do is my sister since we live together. She doesn't even know the full extent of what I do, maybe only 10%. She does know what I have a few ebay accounts, just a few.

Some of her friends know that I do sales and ask me to help them out but I simply tell them at I am too busy. She has one friend who tries to push me to help them out but I say "I can't, because I am under contract not too".

lol its just annoying sometimes when i say i resell things that makes profit and then they ask what do you sell? i kinda choke after that and make things up lol

I just say I'm a consultant. Which is actually true, but it is not all that I do. I just don't elaborate.

I used to say that, but one day my friend decided to purchase some items from me .They had asked what my user name was and not thinking I gave them my highest ranking one.
It was a nice gesture on their end considering they were trying to help me with feedback and sales.
Needless to say it was a stealth not only the wrong gender and all else. :tears: I think to date she finds me shady.

Acquaintance: I'm a BUM.
Friends: I work for online retailer.
Close friends know what i do.
Family: Father's side don't ask. Mother's side knows.

I tell them Nunyo. "Nunyo?" Nunyo damn business!

But for real? Online sales consultant.

Of course, been doing this for 20+ years (running my own business of buying and selling), and my father still tells me I've never had a "real job"...:mad:

If your family or friends do not know what you do they are not much of a family or friend.

In fact I always help many family members, young ones like nieces and nephews with finding things to sell on ebay when they need money etc.

They all know I am the ebay queen.

Same here, my family and friends know exactly what I do even some aqaintances I just see around town. But when filling out applications I put internet sales, online marketing something like that tell em I sell digital products.

Well im not trying to hide anything and when they ask I tell them becuz I can sell them stuff at 30% off retail or even more. I sell a lot of stuff that way to their kids they pay cash which is even better.

Even workers at the bank ask me and have bought things from me

I tell them, i am on internet marketing sales...Then i explain how High Street days are gone, and everything is on internet.
Also i say i sell electronics of various site and have a storage where i stock etc etc....they seem to be intrested but never tell them the full extent

I got bored of telling people what I do. Now I just make up random professions to spice things up. Sometimes I'm a stunt man, sometimes I'm a volunteer at the local dogs home, sometimes I'm a religious leader and sometimes I say "I work for the government. I'm not allowed to say what I do,"....that's always a good one ;-)

But all my friend and everyone here knows I'm just a student and an eBay seller :-)
