Eww imperial? lol. Can't you use metric?

If I were to somehow magically become that big one day I'd turn the situation to my advantage and convert it to muscle and become a Schwarzenegger type. :ballchain::boink:

elijah...fat does not turn into muscle bud

the trick is do not buy it and have stuff that is bit healthier to hand. I cannot preach though, ate 3 cakes the other day, they were meant to be dessert for all of us at dinner time, but they did not last.

I have to do the same thing. If I kept stuff in the house like brownies, cakes and cookies, the peaches, oranges, grapes ans plums would rot in the fridge. Not to mention, I really WOULD look like some of those pictures I posted.

When we want sweets, we buy just enough for dessert. Either that or go for ice cream.

It works...

wow i only eat like 2 meals a day..and i see muscle building and i work out..but i pretty much am in the gym every evening and every weekend..plus i mix it up..jog cardio and then do weights too...the common problem people do is not eat the right foods..not get the right supplements and not do the right MIX of exercises..

GTB 07-03-2012 01:29 AM

hustler

eat plenty of chicken/fish...you should be eating 6 times a day....smaller portions

for cardio just do a lil warm up jog...20 mins max

then hit the weights hard

dont go gym everyday.......3/4 times a week max....muscles need time to recover

But building muscle does increase fat burning.

they_screwed_me_too 07-03-2012 01:10 PM

most experienced body builders/personal trainers will tell you it is

"virtually impossible" to increase muscle mass AND reduce body fat at the same time

I thought that exercise burns fat and builds muscle... No???

they_screwed_me_too 07-03-2012 01:27 PM

this is not the be all and end all of the reason

but

exercise burns calories

using lots of calories leads to a loss of in this order

stored body sugar (carbohydrates), fat and ultimately protein (muscle tissue)

to build muscle effectively you need an excess of calories upwards of 1000 extra calories (good calories not junk) a day combined with weight resistance training (which does indeed burn calories also)

to lose weight (fat) you need to do effectively the opposite

there are many other factors that will affect this such as age metabolic rate etc

basically eat less to lose fat

eat more to gain muscle (good nutritious food with lots of protein meat and fish as GTB states

Never heard that before and I been hitting the gym my whole life with experienced trainers and body builders. Eat right= loss fat and produce ideal environment for muscle growth
Work out= build muscle while also using stored energy from fat cells to further enhance muscle building and decrease fat.

they_screwed_me_too 07-03-2012 02:18 PM

i hear ya hazy

but you need basically need less calories to reduce fat and more calories to build muscle

certain "supplements" can make a difference

there is no fat in muscle (well a trace element) a muscle is 70% water and about 25% protein

from memory (i may be old and wrong) you need 1000 calories (from protein mainly to build a pound of muscle)

you can build muscle while losing fat but your body needs to have a body fat mass of less than 15%, this is called the recomposition stage

incidentaly the amount of Calories in a pound of human body fat is around 3500

I guess metabolism is also a major factor as well... In my teens I could eat a high calorie diet and as much food as I wanted (but healthy foods/ mainly high protein) and remain cut with a six pack and very muscular with a large build for my age, to the point where I was always asked if I was on steroids. Of course I was not, the only supplement I had taken was protein. This can also contribute to genetics too. That makes sense what you said about having to have less then 15% bf before being able to gain muscle while at the same time losing fat. At that % you wouldn't have to sacrifice that much in calories, therefore not eliminating the possibility of gaining muscle.

its along time since my university days and a long long time since my body fat was low enough to matter

i was trim and lean in my 20s

bit older now but im having a last shot to show the new mrs what this old body can do hah

i did have an array of supplements back in the day

but was a biggish guy before i touched a weight, and ended up at 6.2 and 16stone ripped

i look like a sack of potatoes tied up with a rope now :violin:

Lol dam man ur getting me nervous... Is this what I have to look forward to?? Hah I'm just playing, but that's how 90% of us guys end up as we get older anyway... You could get back in shape by tracking down scumbag buyers on eBay and giving them a workout... Just a thought...

Elijah 07-03-2012 03:41 PM

My father is 54 and can still get away with eating big McDonalds meals and such fairly often without gaining weight. He just does not do it too much since you may be trim on the outside but unhealthy on the inside... he tells me that he honestly doesn't feel any more unfit than he did at 20 or 30.

I want to be like that.
