bread bun/cake/cob/roll/muffin/bap etc

wherever i travel in the world there are many names for a bread "thing"

to me its a BREADCAKE

to some its a roll or a stottie

i tried to get a chip butty in nottingham once and they didnt have a clue

CHIP COB indeed :deadhorse:

GrannyT 07-01-2012 06:10 AM

So you must live in Yorkshire tsmt

they_screwed_me_too 07-01-2012 06:14 AM

GrannyT 07-01-2012 06:28 AM

I was at Sheffield Uni back in the 70's and used to love the bacon and tomato in breadcake that we used to get at the all night burger van just past Whicker Arches after a night at Genevieves or The Fiesta club - happy days:rolleyes:

newstart2 07-01-2012 06:32 AM

Oh about a sandwich? in the northeast we call it a grinder, in the southeast a hoagie

Elijah 07-01-2012 06:37 AM

Nah, he means that round bread thing that they put burgers in. Normally with sesame seeds.

they_screwed_me_too 07-01-2012 06:38 AM

ha ha wild times genevieves eh

before my time but my dad used to go there lol

top rank, wopantec and shades too

the arches are still there (very different now)

burger vans gone and replaced by a halal KFC

FizzyFish 07-01-2012 06:42 AM

Its a bloody stottie :fight:

Went to Manchester once had the same issue...they didn't have a clue what I was on about. I was equally as confused when they started offering a bacon barm... I usually rub balm on!

Try going to stoke - they love oatcakes there, they're weird pancake bready things that they eat for every meal of the day. Weird to try but once you've got half a pound of bacon on anything it tends to taste good!

Bloody southerners :pound:

they_screwed_me_too 07-01-2012 06:49 AM

its a stottie in china fizzy ? lol

depends where in manchester you go, in bury its a bacon muffin or a flour cake

bacon roll in southampton where my good friend lives, he is a southern fairy

bread batch in birmingham if i remember too

to me a muffin is a bun with blueberries in it

but some fools call a bread muffin a teacake, but a teacake is a sweet bread roll with currants in :boink:

Elijah 07-01-2012 07:02 AM

Isn't that what we folks down here call a "scone"

they_screwed_me_too 07-01-2012 07:05 AM

no a scone is a different beast elijah :boink:

they_screwed_me_too 07-01-2012 07:08 AM

Does it ever. The Fiesta club was just over the road - I can't remember the name of the complex but it includes the bus station.

There was also Napoleons and Turn Ups. Turn Ups started out in Nether Edge and then moved to the City Centre

Nice find tsmt - I'm going to show it to my grandkids this afternoon.

"When I was young blah blah blah....."

GrannyT 07-01-2012 07:18 AM

Genevieves was named after the daughter of the man who owned Napoleons and Genevieves. If my memory serves me correctly he was named Max Omarah - a really hunky black guy who was just so cool. Happy days indeed

they_screwed_me_too 07-01-2012 07:20 AM

max yes, had a yellow rolls royce

napoleons is a casino now and was originally shades

i think it ended up being maximiilions which is around my time

oompaloompa 07-31-2012 02:52 PM

I like naan bread, sourdough baguettes, and currant buns and teacakes.

Well nowadays they distinguish with muffins and English muffins, both yummy.

you do not mention the north/south divide of crumpets and pikelets....

they_screwed_me_too 07-31-2012 03:10 PM

i was brought up with them as pikelets

somewhere along the line they became crumpets to me

bizzare

they_screwed_me_too 07-31-2012 03:11 PM

incidentaly i remember pikelets being bigger yet thinner than crumpets

or is that old age memory bending

oompaloompa 07-31-2012 03:22 PM
