Taking Vonage modem internationally
 

Not sure if anyone's tried this before but since the vonage modem is basically your "phone number" wherever it has internet access has anyone taken the modem abroad to see if it still works? I wonder if it works just the same or would there be some phone law/policy/regulation that will block your device from working?

It works.

You need an adapter & US hand set.

Does not allow emergency calls .

Used it in Dubai & the UK

thanks for responding. does it also work with calling back to the US? this makes it much cheaper to stay in touch with friends/relatives abroad

As far as I understand it is still possible to use it as you described.

I haven't checked with them but checked their site today and it seems they state this under the international plans. I was thinking more of their $9.99/month residential plan that I'm on which is cheaper. I don't mind paying $10 to keep in touch with people abroad

It's a much cheaper way for relatives to just give them a modem to take home so we can call each other for free by local #. My opinion at least.
