How to mirror old laptop to new laptop

Hi guys,

Sorry not sure if this is ok to post here, but ill give it a shot.

I have a laptop couple years old running windows 7. I want to use my newer laptop windows 7. However I want to copy everything on hard drive, including cookies, from one PC to the other. I have no idea where to start.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

Much appreciated!!! :D:D:D

Hi,

You would have to use a Hard Drive Cloning software to do that, here is a list :

Comparison of disk cloning software - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Freewares exist

All the best.

Acronis Migrate Easy 7.0 is pretty good & does what you require.

Key Features
Copy an old hdd to a new one;
Use either automatic or manual upgrade modes;
Install a new hard disk drive as a boot disk or as an additional storage device;
Re-deploy your old hard disk;
Follow the easy to use Windows XP-like wizard-driven interface;
Migrate large disks (over 180GB).

Partition Management
Resizes transferred partitions to match new hard disk size;*
Includes special sector-by-sector support for other partitions & corrupted file systems;
Creates, deletes, moves & copies partitions.

Security & Safety
Pending operations: a hard disk installation scenario is first created, & only then implemented;
An old disk could be securely wiped;
When partitions are copied an original HDD remains unchanged.

Awesome!!!

Thanks so much! Exactly what I was looking for.... So a basic USB transfer cable and program then good to go?

It seems though it does not support windows 7 ?

So it probably mirrors Viruses and Trojans also? :shocked:

Any prudent end user is expected to have good anti-virus/anti-spyware/anti-malware to preclude these issues.:D

I've used Acronis in the past & they are pretty solid programs.

I'm ordering a new laptop next week from HP.

Before I transfer I'm going to run CCleaner, AVG, Malwarebytes, and ESET.

Hope that does the trick.

Roscoe you can also check out Advanced System Care 6. It is basically CCleaner upgraded to do everything.
