For playing, find a used PS3. For burning & playing, find a cheap desktop and throw in an aftermarket burner.

if you are going to burn blu-rays anyway, why don´t you just get an tv card for your pc?

or an sat receiver on which you can store movies and play them from.

you wouldnßt to upgrade from blu-ray to "whatever is the next medium"
