| | | LoopHole | 11-20-2012 04:40 PM | Safest place for storage I am traveling out of the country with my family for 2 weeks on the Christmas Holidays. We have 2 cats so my dads friend agreed to come and check up on the cats and give them food, refill water, and all that stuff.
Even though he's been my dads friend for a long time, i trust no one. Putting a new lock on my door won't keep my mind off some guy walking around my house without me being there. Getting a hidden cam is a little overboard and would be too expansive.
So i need a safe place to store my stuff. Laptop, credit cards, debit cards, papers with info, money, basically all the stuff that if someone saw they could ruin your life.
Anyone know a place where they have decent amounts of space and are 100% trustworthy? I was thinking like a bank, but i'm not sure if all my stuff would fit there. |

| BigCJ | 11-20-2012 05:36 PM | If going for a bank you could open up a lock box in there. but instead, why don't you invest
in a safe? I have one, and in the long run, its much cheaper than having a lock box at a bank.
Just put it somewhere you think it will be safe in the house where no one knows about it but you.
And TGMT....I have had the walmart tubs before....They are not chihuahua proof! |

What is the biggest lock box in a bank? And i mean a safe could work but i will be gone for a week. This guy can just take the safe if he finds it. He has a whole week to go through my house. Which hopefully he wont... but like i said i can't trust him no matter what my dad says. |

Cattery won't work. My cats are not regular cats. They scratch and everyone who tries to touch them or gets near them. And they will not eat food from strangers. We've tried this already. These cats are so spoiled they eat real cooked shrimp everyday. They would kill themselves in a cattery. I can't do that to them. |
Mad house Loophole! Ha - go to bank, various lockbox sizes available - could check also an airport locker and see for how long good for...
A safe is nice idea too |
| NGALO1983 | 11-21-2012 05:32 AM | You could put it in a storage. They are pretty cheap. Where I live its less then $30 bucks a month but maybe u can ask them for a better deal since u only need one week but I advise u to pick it up on time or else they will put it up for auction and somebody like me buys it and sells it back to you on Ebay :pound: |
| yotano211 | 11-21-2012 05:41 AM | I had the same problem last year, I went away for 2 months when I was living with a roommate. I went to Walmart, bought one of those Storage tubs like TGMT² said. I put all my stuff into a small 5x5 storage unit with a nice heavy duty lock and all was fine when I came back. Total cost, 55 bucks. |
Rent out a local storage unit for the length of time you are expecting to be away for.
This would be a good option to consider. |

And no Loophole, I dont mean going through your stuff. :heh: Its just that Ive had neighbors come in to feed my pups (had a nanny cam for my children) and they just walk around to ensure all is in order. Never touching anything |
| LoopHole | 11-24-2012 08:19 PM | Eh, i came to the conclusion that ill just bring all the stuff with me. |
| golden_monkey | 11-24-2012 08:56 PM | ^^ that is what i was about to say
normally that kinda stuff goes with me.
other types of paperwork I don't have to worry cause its trusted family.

| moneyhustler88 | 11-27-2012 06:52 AM | man dont you think if anything does go missing..it's blatantly obvious it's him? you could just get a local storage unit or get a safe with a password combination like people said.. |

The problem is what he can do with all that info if he did decide to take it. And i already decided to take all my stuff with me. |

Do a back up of everything you have EVERYTHING. Put it all on disk. Lodge all at a bank. Ensure you have a copy of everything safe away from even you. Ideally you would make two copies of everything & store in different places. Then you can go on vacation with the lap-top & papers knowing you still have copies of your info.
Dont forget you could get robbed on vacation so it's imperative you cover yourself before going away.
I expect a postcard too please

| oompaloompa | 11-29-2012 07:15 AM | stuff is safer at home than a storage place..
just hide it where nobody would look. I know someone that has floorboards that lift up with rug over it. Inside the base of our sofa is often empty..There are always crevices in your home.
You should live in an old English home, you can live there years and suddenly discover a massive space you did not know about, I found one 1900 fireplace and large storage (with old wasps nest in it - yuk) when I pulled a wall out in the kitchen, I put a dresser in front of it and it is invisible again, but like a panic room or secret storage behind....I am planning to put dead bodies in it... |
