Techies please help Microsoft issue

Daughter has new version of Microsoft Office. Has powerpoint, excel, word etc.

School project requires access.

We cannot get access to work on the new version.

I am not familiar with access, is it something that has to be paid for extra when you buy the program or can you get it somehow if you have the key for the new version of office?

Help appreciated.

Sandy

What version of MS Office did she get. There is different versions with different programs. The version she got might not have Access in it.

yotano211 01-03-2013 05:53 PM

Its included in the Professional and higher editions or sold separately.

yotano is correct it is in the more expensive pro versions of office - it is a database program. Strange that a school would require it. There are freeware database programs - even ms sql has a small free version. If she really does need office with access it might be available at student discount price.

She is an honor student and ranked 2nd in her class of 500 kids and the school has some really tough classes for honors kids.

I thought the same thing, why would a school expect kids parents to purchase something that is close to 300.00 and use it once or twice?

I called one of my BIL who bought a new laptop and needed to professional version and bought the package for 3 computers and he gave us the key to use it.

She is working on in right now. Hope it works.

Yotano, yes I see that now. Just another way to steal more money from us and the school is wrong to require this.

Thanks guys, I hate to see her frustrated because she needed to have this done and not have the software.

I appreciate the help.

Is access had to use?

MM78 01-03-2013 07:15 PM

Access is a database software, it's not super hard but if your daughter is tech savvy she can get it in no time.

Thanks MM

She needs to know how to change the style of a report.

The school uses 2007 software and we are using 2010 version and the style is not showing like it does on the computers at school.

We looked and cannot find how to change the style of the report.

Many visual differences in between the 2 versions. I have both. Bouncing back and forth between each one sucks.

MM78 01-03-2013 09:18 PM

@Sandy, Do you need 2007 version?

Gamefreak 01-04-2013 02:37 AM

You can get anything free online.. hehe...

Did you find the command buttons in Access 2010?

Create a new reporting template similar to the school report. They may be using some custom reporting template style.

Thank you everyone!

I truly appreciate the help.

We finally got it.

Dang these kids have to be genius to understand this lingo.

My kid is telling me she wants me to learn power point.

How do you guys in your 40's like I am learn all this stuff?

Classes?

I am about as techie as as 98 year old granny.

I do appreciate all the kinds help, offers and responses.

If I can ever give back please feel free to let me know.

Look for classes at local community colleges. They are all either cheap or free for beginning software courses. I know universities will do the same, but not sure if they are cheap or free....

Sandy D 01-05-2013 04:24 PM

Might be a good idea.

I use excel and word but if and when I get some spare time I would like to learn more.

All your learning can be done on youtube... Check out the tuts they have on there. Very useful.

Also a good recommendation from Gamefreak. There are tutorials for anything you can think of on YouTube.

Thank you.

I use you tube a lot for other things.

Us 40 somethings missed all those tech learning years and need to get caught up.

Could hire a private tutor for cheap for the whole family if you have the $. Makes life simpler.
