Saab 93 Aero Convertible

anyone have any experience of buying owning one of these ?

looking to buy one

Don't know much about Saabs. As far as i know Saab is owned by GM or was owned. I'm pretty sure they are manufactured in Sweden and not Mexico so that's a good thing.

Best way to find out some things is to go on a non-saab forum and go to the general non specific car forum and post a thread like you did here. I found one here, a site that i visit daily. Most ppl know what they are talking about here. Not everyone though. And don't mistake the site for vdub owners only. That part of the forums section are people who own all types of cars. It's a great site.

VWVortex.com - What do you think about Saab?

Ive had a few of these through my hands in the past.
Saabs used to be brilliant before GM got there hands on them .
Now the car your considering is a vauxhall vectra with different badges and the roof chopped off.
They even use the same floor pan.
Resale prices are also now terrible after the brand went under.
Volvo C70 rag top would be a better choice if your looking for a cheap swede .
Price wise not much difference but 100 times more reliable as its not a GM

the ecotec engines they slapped in there are good units in the later models.

93 is pre GM days.

I wouldn't buy a 21 year old car.... how many miles? I've had a saab before. Those turbos can get expensive.

How much do you like dealership waiting rooms?

GM in uk or Vauxhall as there branded have a terrible rep for the last 10 - 15 years.
Sales used to be on par with Ford , now there nowhere near.
And yes Ford / Volvo works well , reliabilty is very good and Volvo still scores better than most on the crash tests .

They did used to be the prefered form of transport for the coffin dodgers but not so much now.
C70s are good cars - much underated and the turbo variant can pick up its heels .
Depends on budget but i personally would not go for either .
If your wanting a decent rag top have a look at the mercs you can pick up a nice 03 plate clk cabriolet for £3k and they still look like 30k and will last forever.
Parts prices are high but as its a merc you wont need to be worrying about buying spares ..

werid.. all the state side GM stuff is good, good solid engines, good trans, easy service.

here ford is kinda mickey mouse, it lasts but when it breaks watch out its coming.... when the ford dealer techs don't drive fords.. you know.
