| | | Gamefreak | 04-24-2013 01:58 AM | Anyone here have AMEX personal or Business cards? Just curious to see if anyone here has any type of amex card(s), and if you do is it all its hyped up to be?
personally dont have any... declined last time I applied. |
| GreenBean | 04-24-2013 02:03 AM | As in credit ones?
Yes I have them. I have corporate cards.
:typing: |
| Dmshark25 | 04-24-2013 02:50 AM | I have the prepaid and the serve and they are awesome no monthly fees no problems they are my best and I have a lot different ones Mango money is great too |
I have 2 types of personal ones - it`s alright - nothing to write home about though....depends on the points scheme |
| GreenBean | 04-24-2013 06:08 AM | Ah, the points scheme can be OK.
I had luck with a chargeback ;)
I liked AMEX heaps for that victory.

Cant forget the interest rate seem to be highish vs. Visa and MC - unless you have crazy preferred status.
For many online stuff though, Visa and MC are preferable |
| GreenBean | 04-24-2013 06:56 AM | Cards are corporate with perks.
:ranger: |
| dallasreed | 04-24-2013 09:42 AM | I have personal and corporate Amex. There are more or less the same offers from MC and Visa for all of the levels of Amex though. I think one of the perks is once you have an amex you stop getting spammed with Amex offers in your mailbox.
For online stuff the best cards are the ones that let you generate a temporary card number though. Citi and Discover have cards with that feature. Comes in handy. If only the temporary card expiration was more than 1 month! |
| 100HRWEEK | 04-24-2013 03:11 PM | I have an Amex Blue (Cash Back). I also want to get the Amex Green. The Amex Green is cool, what you have spent on it YTD will become your new Line of Credit. So if by end of the year, I've spent 100K in inventory on the Card and have paid it off, my new line of credit is 100K. Also keep in mind, Amex is a Charge Card, not a credit card. You are suppose to pay it in full in 30 days. They do have high crazy interest like other CCs and allow you to make minimums but it's highly frowned upon to do that. |
| dallasreed | 04-24-2013 03:24 PM | I believe even though there is not a listed spending limit there is an "exposure limit" which an unknown max amount that may be charged per month. The exposure limit being based on credit history, payment activity, etc. I don't think you can actually get a 100k limit. But I could be mistaken. Quote:

| 100HRWEEK | 04-24-2013 03:51 PM | That's correct. So at the beginning if you are approved, they give you the usual 5-10K limit depending on your age, credit, income etc.... From then, you build up your limit depending on how much you put on the card. I think you get re-valuated every 6 months, and the total of charge and paid will then be your new limit. |
| dallasreed | 04-24-2013 04:42 PM | Interesting. I would think that a personal or business loan line of credit at a bank would probably be significantly better APR and not as big of an issue for paying off every month, but I could see the Amex being handy and much less trouble to get than a loan. |

Actually there is also an additional branded Amex Card issued here by Costco - it`s a bonafide credit card though - set limit (just a sidenote) |
| Sandy D | 04-26-2013 12:01 AM | I love my AMEX cards.
Especially the cash back card.
The only issue you run into is some places do not accept Amex so you can just pull out something different. |
| Gamefreak | 04-26-2013 02:58 AM | Cool, so i decided to apply again for the business gold charge card and was approved this time. Pretty excited about it as I can finally stop using my debit card for all my purchases which comes out to thousands a year.. |
Nice Gamefreak!
Like Sandy, I am annoyed when few places dont accept it and few online sites dont take Amex - it would be nice to use the card everywhere. |

Very useful in many ways.
There are a tons of great credit cards out there that not only offer very high limits with rewards, but have some perks when using them.
I like the travel perks with some cards, airline miles, cruises etc. |
Yes, I would say out of all my credit cards AMEX is my favorite and Discover being a close second. Now a days most places take AMEX, unlike back in the days when it was rarely accepted widely. The rewards are good but the service has been impeccable in my opinion, very top notch. |
| Gamefreak | 04-28-2013 12:38 AM | Of yes thats what everyone who has an AMEX card says the service of all things is the best. |
| unkown5454 | 04-28-2013 01:26 AM | If you don't have AMEX BLACK, you don't know ste.alth. |
