Anyone besides me not allow other people to use your PC/Internet??

Always fear somehow being linked I absolutely do not allow anyone to touch my PC. Also when I was living with my last GF I paid for my own separate DSL line on top of the internet she was using.

Just curious how other members see it. I put in way too much work after my main account got suspended 5+ years ago and also a few of my first stealth accounts. With all the work I have put in and it being basically my sole income I am not going to allow anyone to even potentially mess it up for me.

All my windows user accounts are password protected. I try to make it as difficult as possible even for myself to screw up by logging into the wrong stealth and everything else.

I was wondering if anyone else is like this. I use to get in arguments with my GF about it. Also quite a few years ago when I was younger semi living with my parents I was using their address for my legit account. I was telling them not to make an eBay to call me and I would buy anything they needed etc.

I have two different internet lines. One that friends and family can use when they visit, and that I use when just browsing, and one just for EB.

I also have a 2 dedicated laptops for EB, each has 10-15 accounts linked to them, and they are alternated week in week out.

Worked far too hard to risk it being messed up :)

I just have my own pc for stealth

rsot 06-18-2013 05:35 AM

I keep several PCs just for business - no personal use - separate lines. I have got into arguments with friends or GFs but no no, not allowed

Preferable for people I know who wish to go on living to avoid touching my computer.

Standard rules of the office.

Do not touch my computer.

Do not sit on my chair or ever adjust said chair.

Under no circumstances EVER touch my coffee mug.

I also keep my work-related computers and consultation computers under lock and key so no access. I have a few personal computers around set up for friends, family and what not if they wish to peruse

I don't mind people touching my PC, The IP to my home is not related to any ebay account, plus every stealth account on my PC is pass-worded.

My Laptop on the other hand....NO TOUCHY TOUCH! Don't look at it, don't ask for it, don't even think about it!

MM78 let me come by with a few beers - we'll square it all up

Sandy D 06-23-2013 10:11 PM

My family has their own internet access.

No one touches my computers. :nono:

No one enters into my compound.

Unless they are coming in to help with the work!!!

Or bring me a snack or something.

I put password on all my computers. Plus a have a firmware password on my laptops should they get stolen they will be unusable by said thief or anyone they try and sell it to.

Plus i have 3 internet, 1 for ebay and amazon, 1 for family and friends and 1 for downloading..

BIOS passwords.......... they aren't set in stone, so don't think that extra step makes your computer untouchable.........it doesn't.

If you really wanna hide-ish

You have to change your DNS servers.. openDNS.. if you use ISP DNS they know where you go and what you are are looking at..............blah

you only connect to your search via HTTPS (secure) only you and them know what you are searching and type.

https://startpage.com is good at this. - they also dump IP etc in a quick fashion.

if you do all this all your ISP sees is encrypted data moving around and they have no idea what it is or isn't.

just popping open some "private" tab is about as safe as condoms with holes. :nono:

rsot 08-12-2013 06:47 AM

Sounds complex vs. just saying `No`to having someone use the comp

GreenBean 08-12-2013 06:49 AM

@rsot

Actually it is better to lock some people out of touching computers.

They do not understand no.

They come back with ' But I only wanted to put a bid on this item I am watching'..... like you have no clue about what harm you could do.

Lock 'em out

:fight:

rsot 08-12-2013 07:23 AM

IF that is what you wish, sure.

GreenBean 08-12-2013 07:30 AM

Works for me.

Comfort zone not damaged.

:peace:

rsot 08-12-2013 11:31 AM

I guess I just keep a personal computer or 2 around (laptops) for visiting folks - works well
