What camera do you guys use?
 

Had a really bad day. Threw my camera across the room and it shattered. Didn't notice what i have done until i started to pick up the pieces. So now i need a new camera asap. What do you guys use? I need something that takes quality pictures and that isn't too expansive.

Personally for a lot of my pictures, I have used my phone. I have got a Sony a330 as well, but I only use this for the much larger items that have a lot of detail.

Bad day and you took it on the camera? :( Sigh - just go for canon or olympus - cheap but decent quality

Olympus C765 4MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom, been using this for nearly 10 years now. I have had to buy like 5 or 6 batteries ($2-3 each on Amazon) because I have taken probably 10-20 thousand pictures. I know it is outdated but I am one of those people that if something is working I prefer not to change it.

The lenses in those babies were really good at the time of manufacture.

Well done for looking after the camera so long.

I always find something to dislike with a new camera.

But the old, trusted ones are favored.

I have a Nikon DSLR that takes amazing pictures. I bought it when my son was born.

I once took pride in taking immaculate pictures in my ebay listings (some would even send me messages).

But it became a bit time consuming to...

1. attach the lense & setup camera
2. take the pictures
3. put camera in 'usb mode'
4. attach usb to computer & upload files
5. upload to ebay

The technology in most phone cameras has come a long way.

It is far more convenient now to use my Galaxy S4 to take the picture and just send the picture as an MMS to my email where I can upload it to ebay.

Seriously, I can not believe a Camera has lasted me this long. Like I said since I use it nearly every day and take 50-100 photos at a time or more. This sucker has been a work horse. I have to buy like 2 batteries every 2 years like I said because the charge wears out on them. I always have one charging while I am taking pics so I can swap out etc.

But yea, if anyone else has an good camera stories I would love to hear them. As most serious sellers know pics on eBay especially as a smaller seller pictures are extremely important.



Yea, I am somewhat superstitious about things like that. If you have something that has been treating you good and has been working I tend to be loyal to it and roll with it. Maybe not for everyone but if things are going right I prefer not to rock the boat.

I inherited half of my Dad's cameras.

I have a 1938 Leica ii with the original paperwork ( in German).

It has two shelf companions.

One is a Russian imitation of the same camera. Bit rough. LOL.

Other one is a 1936 Braun or Carl Braun Camera-Werk item.

The shelf I refer to is a safe!!! Not out in the open ever these babies.

Was in Germany when the Berlin wall went down. Went to the Leica Museum.

Staff there were trying to buy the Leica off me.
Still beautiful today

A little bit, yes - good friend is a professional photographer so we have had some discussions...it is quite interesting

Used Leicas when I did Medical photography. Great lenses even these days

If you need quality pictures you must have good lens....camera is not so important as lens are....also learn to use manual mode for the best results

Pictures in my opinion are the most important thing about marketing your item on eBay so taking quality pics in non negotiable. I have found even if you sell generic items if you take the time to some decent pictures of the actual item, not just steal some generic photo off another website at least for me I have always been able to sell more and usually get a slightly higher price.

That is interesting about the lens being the most important thing. It does make sense though it doesn't matter how many mega pixels or zoom you have if your lens is crap.

Lens is the eye of the whole procedure.

Medical photography eh GB? For clinics...surgeries...or?

A good place to bring this up - be conscious of EXIF metadata!! I haven't heard of anyone getting limited on this basis but I wouldn't be surprised. Phones and cameras with GPS can geotag your pics, so Ebay could easily read the exact location of the picture. Many photo upload sites will retain your data as well. I'm not too worried so I'm not messing with my pics, mainly because my account address is set up in a nearby city and I've never used my phone camera for pics on another account.

Getting rid of geotags is as easy as turning you GPS off or turning off the feature in your camera settings. Getting rid of all EXIF data is as easy as copy and pasting the image data into a new file which you can do with MS paint.

I have a Galaxy Ace 2, 8mp camera with flash. Generally I use macro focus mode which can in fact focus up to a few feet away or get a clear image of very small text from just a few inches.

I do have to keep my hand relatively steady for a really nice pic, my hands shake a lot. And it's very useful to be able to change the metering - I've been taking pictures of some black shoes on a bright background, and center weighted doesn't do the trick nearly as well as spot. Black suede has a tendency to absorb a ton of light haha.

Seriously, you wanted to streamline your process and you're using MMS? With an S4? Is this not the year 2013?

There are countless options that are better than MMS. The only possible reason I can think of for using MMS is if you don't have a data plan, wifi, and if for some unlikely reason you aren't by your computer AND you wont have you phone when you are by your computer.

If you have a data plan or wifi, just attach them in an email and save it as a draft. Or get a photo uploading app. If you're by your computer, you can use bluetooth, an SD card adapter, or simply plug it in with USB and you wont even need to copy the files to you computer, you can just browse to your phone straight from the Ebay upload page.
