| | | GreenBean | 10-16-2013 11:50 PM | Acrid, killing smoke and fire Latest NSW fire updates, Thursday, October 17
On FULL warning now.
Fire raging out of control.
Have called in the City Brigades to back us up.
If we do not contain this fire, we stand to lose many suburbs.
Hope for wind change, rain AND luck.
We have been caught again thanks to an inept government not allowing back-burning.
Crews are ready.
:peace: |

| GreenBean | 10-18-2013 12:55 AM | Re: Acrid, killing smoke and fire NSW bushfires: live updates
Over 130 homes burned out. One poor man confirmed dead.
Worse though, and as scary as sh*T, we lost radio communications and our web site crashed.
Not a nice 30 minutes of no way to commincate with the base station. Our trucks have walkie-talkies so we got thro'..................
Friend drove home yesterday thro' fire embers blowing into the window of her car and the roar of fire in her ears.
Moon was red last night.
We rest.
We go back in a few hours.
Huey, send rain please
:peace: |

Is it normal to have these types of fires in your area? | The Blue Mountains is entirely covered with eucalyptus trees. These are full of resin which explodes in fire.
Our country is suffering under the El Niņo effect. Scare rain for years, no back burning and high temperatures are bad.
The Lithgow fire, which has a 150 km front was caused by the Defence Department firing live ammuntion.
The fires closer to us where caused by power lines arcing & exploding in high winds. That fire was like a mini tornado with its intensity.
We are in Spring, not Summer.
We have hard times ahead. |

I remember seeing this thread and immediately thought of it when I saw the report.
Be safe Greenie. |
