Congrats to the Red Sox. Great team, great series. | Have to say as well. Congrats to the RedSox. Thought STL had the better Roster. They chocked again just like the did against my Giants in the NLCS last year. When you lose games to Zito or Lackey, you have no chance of winning any series. |
Re: Red Sox v Cardinals Who are you taking? Cards couldnt do it - Red Sox deliver, great series - nice call on Red Sox in 6 Sandy...pound the Cards last night. |

Red Sox have gold glove winners, MVPs, All stars etc etc while cards only have Beltran with any numbers.
Fact is before this series began who knew who the names of any Cards player other then Beltran, Holliday, Freese and Molina? The others are no name players no one knew about.
Red Sox have players sitting on the bench that most fans can recognize.
Only the rookie at third might be the only one no one outside of Boston would not know.
Victorino and Pedoria are the best at their positions in baseball. Ellsbury, Ortiz, Napoli, Gomes etc are names most fans know about.
If you got back the Cards were only in it for 6 only because of a botched homer call and a throwing error. If it was not for that this would have been an easy sweep.
Red Sox took a hot young pitching staff and took them apart one player at a time.
No Cards player stepped up and Beltran and Holliday were stopped cold.
This series was not as close as some think. |

| But that is the scary part about the Cards. They have an entire team of young kids who are developing into stars or are stars already. They will be back in the playoffs again and again.
Many of the players are homegrown. And they keep adding to the team with more young stars (Oscar Taveras will be up next year).
Congrats to the Red Sox, it was very nice to see that celebration on the home field. I stayed up just to watch it live - must see TV for a sports fan.
And congrats to St. Louis. With their plethora of young talent, we should get used to seeing them in October. |

Yes they have some young talent for sure. Great pitching more then anything.
They need a good hitting first baseman badly. |
Re: Red Sox v Cardinals Who are you taking? Cards will be back for sure...strong team for the NL side - I figured the Red Sox in 5...and, like you said Sandy, it could easily have been a sweep...one game was won by a run that was called safe but was sketch.
Actually, I think the Dodgers would have had a stronger chance vs. Red Sox but they couldn't deliver in the clutch situations vs Cards. |
| Sandy D | 10-31-2013 09:35 PM | Re: Red Sox v Cardinals Who are you taking? Dodgers have a very good team. And a good coach who knows the game well.
Only thing they need is two better starters to add to a decent pitching staff. |

This series was not as close as some think. | I disagree. If you went on all those stupid statistics Dodgers,Tigers, Phillies, Reds would and the the teams that spend the money every year would win. Giants and Cardinals won the first Three of 4 world Series this decade. They had nothing close to the MVP and all that garbage. Gold Gloves, MVPs and all that don't mean crap. This is a team sport. It is about role players and situational players. Having multiple left handed specialists whose entire job is to get you that one out. Having a manger that knows when to double switch and and pull a pitcher. This is why the AL is such garbage, it is absolutely no strategy. It is a disgrace to baseball and it is boring.
You take a team on paper and think whatever you want about them. Fact of the matter is the Cardinals made it to two World Series and 3 NLCS over the past 3 years. The RedSox gave away their huge payroll to the Dodges. I agree they Red Sox played better in the series. But this MVP and Gold Glovers and all that is crap. The biggest hit in the Series came from a journeyman from my neck of the woods Johhny Gomes. MVP, Gold Glove. I don't think so. Better Bench. Yes. |
Re: Red Sox v Cardinals Who are you taking? 2 better starters for the Dodgers - interesting
Gomes was pretty solid |

But you said the Cards had the better roster and they do not at all. People win gold gloves and mvps for their performances and the Cards have none of those other then Molina while the Red Sox have gold glove winners, mvps, record setters in many categories etc.
Overall the Red Sox were a far better team but the Cards put up a decent fight. Only thing that keep them from being swept in pitching which on the second go around the Red Sox figured them out and beat them up pretty badly.
I said before game six they need to get to Wacha early and knock him out and they did. Sox had too many good smart hitters to let him beat them twice. Cardinals had no such hitters to combat Lester and Lachey.
Red Sox bullpen was lights out.
Coaching showed up as well as the Red Sox made adjustments that counted while the Cards did not.
Red Sox went from worth to first after handing some darn good players away like Crawford and Gonzalez and started from scratch.
Gritty, tough and never give up is what made me go from a lifelong Reds fan to a Red Sox fan in the 04 season and still am today because of players like Pedoria.
Cards will rebound but they need some better hitting as pitching dont win it all or Detroit would be a clear winner.
Boston beat up two of the best pitching staffs in baseball twice in the Tigers and Cards. |
Re: Red Sox v Cardinals Who are you taking? It was quite the move of Red Sox going from barrel bottom last season to winning it all this year. Hah knocked out Wacha for sure - made him look a bit amateurish in fact |

Boston lead MLB in many categories with tons of good hitters and I posted they need to get to him early and they did. It shook him up as he is a rookie and did not know how to respond. |

Like him or not he put the right players in the right games and moved the pitching and batting order around to perfection. |

Kinsler is a dynamic hitter though. They'll be fine.
It's easier to find a 1B that can hit than a 2B that is an offensive force. |

| Sandy D | 11-22-2013 09:26 AM | Re: Red Sox v Cardinals Who are you taking? I see a lot of trades and moves coming this year.
Dodgers have to make some moves.
Yankees need to replace many.
Detroit still needs some speed.
St Louis is a power hitting 1st baseman. |
| An0nym0u$ | 11-22-2013 12:13 PM | Re: Red Sox v Cardinals Who are you taking? ...and my Mets need about 23 players :)
Cardinals will more than likely move Allen Craig to 1B to make room for Oscar Taveras.
I like Detroit's trade to get Kinsler. It frees up Miggy to move back to 1B and Kinsler helps their speed at the top of the lineup.
Yankees need to win the posting bid to get Tanaka. Their starting pitching depth is poor and Tanaka would help them. |
