Laser printer help

Hi all,

I currently have a CANON MG7150 but need a LASER printer as the quality of the prints are good for marketing setups and generally have a nice end finish on the paper be it glossy or matte.

Can anyone recommend a fantastic LASER printer that can print at high quality?

Thanks

I have 2 laser printers. An HP 1102w monochrome printer for everyday use. I like it because the replacement toner cartridges are about $15 each (not original HP, of course) and then my Samsung 620ND color laser printer.

The Samsung produces awesome output, the only bad thing is that the toner is extremely expensive. If you had to replace all of the cartridges (there are 4) it would cost almost $300. That is why I don't use it for everyday printing.

Jeff - thanks for the info. I am looking for the colour laser - how many prints can you get from the toner you use? Also, I have put in Ama z on Samsung 620ND and there isnt a printer by that product number?

Also, when a laser printer shows as (e.g.) 600 x 600 dpi - that is rather low, or does that represent a high quality print because its totally different in comparison with an inkjet?

Re: Laser printer help

It is actually a CLP-620ND, they may have a newer model that replaced it - it is about 2 years old.

Each cartridge is supposed to last for 5,000 pages, but that is at 5% coverage. So, if you are printing things that are colorful, it will be less than 5,000 pages.

The black cartridge DOES tend to last for at least 5,000 pages, and I would say the color cartridges last for maybe 3,500 - 4,000 pages. But that will totally depend on what you print.

It is very high quality. You actually only need 300dpi to look good in print for most things.

Thanks. How long does it to print a full colour A4 page? I suppose I am asking if its a lot quicker than an inkjet?

In color it prints about 15 or so pages per minute. Samsung claims up to 24ppm, but that is probably under ideal conditions.

One nice feature that I like is it can make the toner look matte or glossy. That can help when you want just the right look for the paper. Of course, you can also use matte or glossy paper. It all depends on what you are printing. It does photos nicely too.

I'm looking for a color multi-function printer.

Samsung Xpress C460W ticks all my boxes, except for the price-tag.

@jeffweico - I bought myself an OKI CN711 machine for nearly £800. Supposed to be the best thing since slice bread.... I cannot figure out how to get the colours to match exactly what are on the screen.

Do you know of any programs that will enable me 100% exact copies of what I have on the screen OR any guides that tell you the best settings for printing graphics in FULL colour?

I just got this Canon Pixma Pro 10 printer - got it at a killer price but...d*mn! 10 SEPARATE inks! Wow...rainbow colours

I use a Samsung laser for black and white needs - very efficient. Brother cartridges can be bit pricey

High end printers will give exact Pantone matching - the stylus type of printers...looking at 5k+ $ - need to go in-store and speaks to sales personnel

I used a good old Brother Mono HL-2135W. Greatest thing I have ever bought from eBay at just £50. Costs all of £3 to refill the powered toner each item it runs out. I would be lost without it.

If the colour version is anywhere near as good, it would be well worth looking into.

The only thing I know for exact color matching is something by Pantone - they have been around forever. I don't know much about it except that professionals use it to get their printing just right.

Pantone - PANTONE Color, products and guides for accurate color communication.

Re: Laser printer help

PANTONE is already in the printer. I have sent the OKI back because it wasnt right and I've now got this.

True 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution enables the Phaser 7100 to deliver exceptional print quality to enhance business communications , even on oversize media.

Adobe PostScript 3 gives quick, reliable, rich prints whilst Xerox colour correction technologies make sure that all reproduction is as accurate and consistent as possible.

Resolution is nice
