They have bought every pennant they won since the 1990s.

They have spent big bucks the last 10 years with nothing to show for it other then roid cheater Alex ster-roid to show for it.

How can they get away with this with the caps on spending?

He will get a rude awakening here in the states as players here are far better hitters and on every team while in Japan you might have a few sprinkled around. He will face great hitters usually every time he walks out to the mound.

Worth the money? Doubt it.

I was under assumption baseball had no caps >.>

And that was amusing in the video, they contracted him without even seeing a pitch - all based on his stat sheet.

If you gave me that money, I could raise a whole team to be better than the Yankees..

They have I believe what they call a luxury tax. If you go over a certain amount spent they hit you with the luxury tax to discourage teams like the Yankees from over spending. Has not happened as the Yankees continue to try and buy pennants.

The Yankees have paid out the most of any team since they started it and must not care about the extra tax most of us think as a salary cap.

Of all luxury tax placed on MLB teams for going over the "⊗⊗⊗⊗" cap limit the Yankees have paid 91% of all extra fees going into the bank.

And not much to show for it either.

What I call a cap they call a luxury tax.

If they go over their limit they are forced to pay a luxury tax on every dollar.

The Yankees have paid 91% of all luxury taxes collected since they started collecting it.

Meaning the Yankees have tried to buy and pennant and just over pay the wrong players who dont perform when they get on the field.

Look at their rosters over the last 5-6 years. Changes over and over and nothing to show for it.

There is an EMORMOUS Difference between a Cap and a Luxury Tax,,,a Cap is a HARD Limit on your Teams Salary that you CANNOT exceed,,,a Luxury Tax is simply an additional Fee (Tax)that a Team will be required to pay once they pass a certain amount of Money,,,to the NY Yankees,,,(The MOST Valuable SPORTS Franchise (2.3 BILLION)) A team that takes in Nearly 500,000 a YEAR,,a 200,000++ a Year payroll is NOTHING

Great Japanese Ballplayers who have played here in the US like Ichiro Suzuki and Hideki Matsui, are the EXCEPTION NOT the Rule,,and also NEVER Pitchers, Did everyone forget all of those Great Japanese Superstats like Masato Yoshi, Kazou Matsui, and of Course the GREAT Tsuyoshi Shinjo, who when he arrived in NY to Play for the Mets made such a Splash, that a LOT of People thought that ELVIS PRESLEY was reincarnated,,,then of course was Hiroki Kuroda, Hisashi Iwakuma, Koji Uehara , Kyuji Fujikawa,,,in a year or two Masahiro Tanaka will take his rightful place among this crowd,,

I know there is a difference but I still call it a cap because the sticking Yankees like everyone else is suppose to stop at a certain amount to make a level field for all. So they put this stupid tax on them thinking it would stop and it never did.

Cap or tax it does not matter. Yankees spent 91% of all money on the tax and have not much to show for it.

Yankees have been dominant for quite some time. They are willing to sign the checks that is for sure. But any Redskins fan knows that does not always equate to wins. The team I have been most impressed with is the Saint Louis Cardinals over about the past 20-30 years. They are always in the conversation and in the playoffs etc. This is a city that can't keep a NBA team and talks about losing NFL team as well. But baseball wise the front office has kept them stacked with young prospects and made great deals to keep the team always in contention for years.

Yankees, Braves, Athletics, Cardinals. In my lifetime each given their own limitations. Some much more than others. Each has been able to find each way to the top. Unlike the Royals and Pirates who have 20+ years and been more or less at the bottom.

All that money spent has really got them nothing to show for it.

In the last 10 years or so they won one single WS in 09.

Look at these teams who have won a WS and they dont spend near what the Yankees, Cardinals etc spend.

Giants
Phillies
White Sox
Marlins
Angels
Diamonbacks

And the teams that got to the series and lost


Tigers
Rangers
Phillies
Rays
Rockies
Astors
Giants
Mets

The string of wins in the late 90s were bought in the same manner with spending money like crazy. Then since 2001 they have spent more money and only show 1 WS win for it.

Someone is signing the wrong players. Johnny Damon comes to mind.

They dont have the quality players like Paul Oneill and Bernie Williams they had back in the 90s.

I agree other then the A's.

Only 1 WS in 23 years for them.

Only a few years back they had the best pitching staff I ever remember with Zito and others. Didnt win anything with them.

Vogel-- Do you think Tom Glavine deserved to be in the HOF?

Maddux for sure but dont know if Glavine did enough to be placed ahead of so many good players.

Maddux and Glavine were killer with the Braves back in the day

I know that and they have other pitchers who were great as well.

Maddux I think helped Glavine look better because Maddux had teams batter totally confused and then the next night they faced Glavine. So he benefited from Maddux and Smoltz I believe.

Dont know if he is HOF with a list of old timers who have not made it.

And guys like Piazza not making it?

As a Mets fan, I've witnessed enough games where Glavine buried us (both against us and for us!).

He's a 2x Cy Young Winner (and finished 2nd to the Cy Young winner twice) and was the MVP of the Braves only World Series title during that stretch.

He was probably the 3rd best out of the 3 Braves stars, but that just speaks volumes on how great Smoltz and Maddux were.

Definitely a Hall of Famer.
